Ok, this ought to settle it. The axle under the work bench is my spare 9.5" out of a 2011 Escalade. The axle on my driveway is the 8.6" from my Yukon XL.

These are Saginaw axles used on the GMT900 wagons and pickups. My pickups have the same 9.5" axles, just different brackets of course as they have a leaf spring rear suspension.

I'll have to take some pictures for you. You might want to look up the RPO code for the upper picture. That axle flange is a lot closer to the end of the tube than on any 9.5 I've worked on. (Which is why the repair bearings usually don't work on the 8.5 but they work on the 9.5)

I'll get a couple 9.5 axle tubes measured on Saturday.... Hard to tell with a photograph, but off the top of my head they look on the small side. I could be wrong though.
