Hell the infinitis are 10X the quality as our cars thou
Lol. Tell that to the parts people at the dealership. So many problems that I was getting calls from them for parts they should be stocking. It was always the same thing too.
Btw OP, that pic is not the future Escalade. As for the processes GM is going through right now. Don't worry. Their in good hands. The new 5.5 DI V8 is actually an old 5.3 with direct injection. Direct injection always results in increased displacement. As for the future of small block engines, GM dumped $800,000,000 February 2011 into the development of new small block engines. Knowing how GM operates, we may not see those engines (along with the rumored 7 or 8 speed transmissions) until 2 years after the release of the next generation truck. I've heard rumors that the replacement for the LS3 is either going to be a 6.3 or 6.4, either with DI and making close to 500bhp.
As for CAFE, I read it some years back. Although I cannot recall exactly what it said, I'm pretty sure it said that the required mpg is calculated by adding the mpg of all cars the manufacturer sells and then dividing by the number of cars sold. Also, when it comes to 'hybrids' there is a certain bonus value added. Iirc, instead of it being counted as 1 car for CAFE, it is counted as 1.5, thus the Volt provides a certain benefit regardless of how poorly it sells. Also, most manufacturers fail to meet CAFE requirements annually. If you dig into those financial records of theirs you will see that they pay a hefty fine every year. Those records are available to the public via the SEC. Full public disclosure is required by law for publicly traded companies.
As for a release date of each model, the Escalade will debut 6 months before the Yukon and Tahoe because of sales, revenues, etc. It's all about money for GM. That's all. So, expect a 2014 Escalade to bow during first quarter 2013 or early 2nd quarter. The Tahoe and Yukon can be expected to arrive in late 3rd quarter. That's just how GM operates. Also, GM also likes to change things up a little 2 years before discontinuing a generation of a vehicle. We may have seen that with the rear bumper on the Escalade and GPS radios no longer needing discs. Both were effective MY2012.
As for your lighter and smaller comments. Yes, GM it's trying to save weight to help with fuel economy. No, they are not trying to get smaller with the Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade. If anything, each generation gets slightly bigger than the generation that preceded it in order to remain competitive in the market. After all, each competitor is also trying to out do them in every possible way, including occupant comfort, thus the increase in size.
Now, with this being said, I'm in full support of locking this thread.
