2022 Lifter Issue? - w/video, out of state issue (edit: thrust bearing broke)

I absolutely feel for you, but you really can’t expect Lexus level service.

It’s a tough spot being at an out of state dealer who’s service department is already loaded, with a not easy to fix problem.
Do what you have to do to get home, and see if your car insurance might not cover some.
It would make me flat uneasy to take a 5.3/6.2 on any cross country trip with my family. This scenario is just something not I’d be willing to risk, knowing it is at least somewhat possible….

That's funny because on the way home my wife said, maybe we should go back to a BMW.

This was our first GM vehicle after 12 or so BMW/Audi/MB's - the only cars we have every owned. We wanted the size for roadtrips like this and I like the styling.

If they don't make it right we will probably sell and buy an X7 or GLS.

This is a customer experience gap with Chevrolet selling a really expensive vehicle like this. Customers in this price range expect a certain level of service, the Chevrolet dealers are simply not prepared to provide.

I’ve bought both BMWs and Land Rover’s new in the past, and the service level is definitely higher when there is a problem.

My Yukon had lifter failure over 6 hrs from home and it was just as difficult to get answers out of GM Customer Care about rental coverage, trip reimbursement and vehicle delivery. In the end, they made things right:
-Covered the cost of an equal sized vehicle (which at the time due to rental availability, was only a full-size pickup) at $76 per day for nearly a month
-Reimbursed me for travel expenses, hotel, even food
-Did vehicle reunite and brought my Yukon to me (multiple states over) via a semi car carrier
-Local dealer fixed my Yukon and everything seemed back to normal but I could never trust it again (it was a 21’ and they only replaced half the lifters even though mine was built directly in the middle of the “known lifter issue” window.

I built an identically-equipped 22’ and sold the 21’ for several thousand more than I paid for it with 22k on the odometer. What a strange time to own vehicles…

They don't really want to mess with my wife :) not just rednecks from Bentonville.


And responding to the post above about expectations. Yes, I think we paid ~$84k MSRP. Expectations are higher when it breaks, I totally understand not having the theatre in the dealership, etc... that the BMW dealerships but I do expect answers.

I was told by a acquaintance who is a parts man at local dealer, they have had 2022 with lifter problems. He also me they only recently changed part numbers on the DFM lifters so hopefully its the solution. My 2021 has had the lifters replaced 2x in 20,000 miles, first time the left bank was replaced, 2nd time both banks as 2 on the left bank failed again. It's not if they will fail, its when.

Traveling and currently in CO, Keystone. I sent a video and the hometown dealer said tow to a dealer. 2022 Tahoe - 6.2l

Has anyone dealt with travel issues/warranty and GM? I can't imagine leaving it here in Denver and GM sending it back to me in Arkansas and paying to get my family home tomorrow....we were supposed to leave for home at 6am tomorrow. Keytone to Bentonville Arkansas. Ugh...

How long has the lifter issue lasted? Can I make it 800 miles? I guess if the GM hotline isn’t that worried to help we’re going to give it a shot.

Bad rod bearing makes identical knock sound. If it is a Rod bearing (Not uncommon on Older GMC Gas trucks/suvs) could blow the engine.

Except a rod knock happens at crankshaft rotation speed and a lifter knock happens at 1/2 crank rotation speed so it’s fairly easy to distinguish between them, thankfully.
