Long story short one of my HID's is out. How do I check to see if it is the bulb or the ballast? I can't hear the ballast humming on the side that is out, if that makes any difference.
Next question: If I were to get the 35w slim ballast DDM kit to replace this one, does anyone know what bulb color would be closest to the 5000k $42 ones? (they're fairly blue but I don't want to go any bluer)
Or should I just consider this a fluke and just order another set of 5000k $42 HID's.

Oh has any one else had problems with the $42 hids?

Never had a problem with mine in the 6 months i had them. Unplug the ballast from the working side and plug it into the bad side. Then try the bad one on the other side. Im guessing its the passenger side that doesnt work?

First check your connections. If that doesnt work, disconnect the ballast that you think isnt working ahd connect it on the other side. If it works then it's the bulb thats out. If it doesn't then it's the ballast.

Sounds to me like it might be the ballast or the wiring leading to it.

If you do decide to get the slim ballast, you should be able to use the bulbs you have now.

I would switch the ballast around or switch the bulbs around.I work on Hids and leds all day in Houston. The low humming could mean that the circuit in the ballast is bad. $42 hid kit sounds cheap.Cheap hid kits usually the circuit board and resistors within ballast are made cheap and have no waterproof/resistant at all. This is a problem alot of people are finding out.I know that like with the company i work for, we had to try out tons of hid kits to finally find out the one that we are going to go with because of problems like this. Also the plug and play kits are not really safe. I would put a heavy duty relay harness on the car to insure no shortings in your electrical system. Did you get a warranty at all?

I did notice the hid, that is out now, was flickering while it was warming up about a day prior to going out.

Any of you guys have constant power running from your batteries to the ballasts? Try buying the wiring harness from the same ebay seller. Its on the $42 hid site. That might help. Mine used to just shut off when i would switch to high beam and stuff. Sounds like yours just arent getting enough power period.

All ballasts buzz btw. its just how they are. They use electric field around a metal core to reduce power usage. That makes a magnetic field and that can change the shape of the core causing vibration. <---If i remember correctly?

check all the connections, move the switch fron off to on positions a few times and see if they come on, my old truck was like that. If you dont have the relay i would suggest gettting one.
