I'm ready to buy a new tranny from transmissioncenter.net. I am not sure if it's the LS1 type or not. How can I tell? The tech said He is 90% sure it is a LS1.

Look at it. The LS1 type had the full (360 degree) removable bell housing on it ... the old style looked like a "normal" transmission case.

If it's in a truck up to 99 it's not an LS1 style.

Actually it does have the full circular bell housing. It has a flat dust cover on the front. Is this a "better" tranny? They cost slightly more that the regular one.

Really now ...

I've read that the full bull housing is stronger ... as far as I know the internals are the same, there are differences between the years but nothing that makes one that much more desirable then the next. You probably have a special torque convertor too then.

What year is your truck??

It is a 99 2 door LT. I just put in a HT383E. I guess it could not take me breaking in the motor. It was actually rebuilt twice under warrenty and had been back to the shop several times because of issues. Right now I have no reverse. I have to be aware of where I park in a shopping center LOL. I had taken it to Dr. Nicks in Medford Long Island. THEY SUCK. Hence me buying one online.

Stock 350 ate my tranny :). Therefore I'm in the market for a built 4L60E or 4L65E. Might go the route of a Mega-Monster from Monster Transmissions and install it over a weekend. Heard a lot of good things about them so far. Anyhow, if you got a HT383E, you should consider investing in a built/heavy duty transmission.

I ordered one from transmissioncenter.net. It is a level 3 Raptor version. Has all kinds of beefed up parts. They dyno it 2x before shipping it out. They use a synthetic fluid they developed. You don't have to use it ($38 per gallon) They said Ford Mercon V or Mopar ATF+4 synthetics are compatible. Other types will gum up. Lucky me I got the Mercon for $4.30/quart from a Ford Dealer.
