I was definitely planning to go the blackbear route once he has a meet close by. I will probably just add oil every month or a little sooner.

My main question is that if I disable AFM, the problem should not continue to get worse right??
No it should not continue to get worse. At least I haven't noticed anything getting worse and I took care of mine almost 50k miles ago

Black bear is a custom tuner

Superchips is what I used - I already had it from my Sierra

Thanks. I found his forum section, and website.

Looked the the bullydog and the superchips too... looks like I might go the superchips route, as all I'm really concerned with is removing the AFM, and having a tow-tune for those long fishing trips.

If you can find an older used superchips, that is unlocked, for a good price - do it. By unlocked, I mean that these things are VIN Locked. Once you plug it in and tune it, you can't use it on another car, unless you return the tuned car to stock. Then you can use the tuner on other cars

If you go to their website and download spark, it will load the tuner with the newest tune available for your truck. I will also add that the customer service at superchips is excellent. I have been using superchips since the 90's and they have always done me right. When my 2004 Sierra was stolen, they unlocked it so I could use it on my 2011 Yukon

Hey guys. I'm real new to this 5.3 AFM. When you guys are saying tuner. Are you talking about a mechanic? Is it a chip that disables the AFM? I have a newly acquired 07' SLT shortie
with 82000 kms. Not burnt any oil since I've had it.
Any suggestions?? Thx

The tuner that we were discussing is a handheld device, that plugs into the OBD port under the dash. One of the many options you can turn on and off is the AFM/Cylinder delete. Superchips and diablosport are two popular makes

there are also people that will make you a custom tune and install it using a laptop and the same port. They can also disable the AFM

search and do your research

My 07 Yukon 5.3 has around 190k on it. It really burns oil towing, and it burns more than enough just commuting to work. I recently installed a catch can and a Range AFM disabler. I started tracking my oil consumption pretty closely, and turning off the AFM certainly did not cure my problem. I need more data to say for sure if it even improved. I burned 16oz in about 1100 miles before the Range module, and I've burned 14oz in the last 900 miles with the range module. Some of that 900 was towing, so it may be somewhat skewed data. I will continue to track it.

As for the catch can, it collects some oil and moisture, but I burn way more than the catch can catches. I still like having it on there.

As for MPG, I can say I lost 2mpg commuting with the range module. Without it, I get 18. With it on, I get 16. I do live in hilly country, and 4 cylinder mode must really help going down hills. My commute is almost all 55mph country roads. 20 miles each way with two stop signs and an occasional Amish buggy to go around. LOL.

Turning off my AFM, installing updated pcv valve cover, and installing a catch can totally fixed my oil consumption issues at 90k
