I currently have 4 Alpine Type-R 12" 2ohm subs with a custom built ported box tuned to 33hz powered by a Hifonics Brutus 2600watt rms amp. I have 4 6.5" Alpine Type-X components for door speakers powered by Hifonics Zeus 780watt rms amp. I want to go louder, but can't decide on whether to do 6 12" Type-R's or do 4 15" Type-R's???

I was talking to my shop and they said that 6 12's will be tricky to get the resistance right. I would need 3 amps and they just don't recommend doing it since it's a weird number of subwoofers to wire.

What do you guys think?

might as well go 6 12s since you already have 4 12s, go to the12volt.com and you can plug in your speakers to see the different wiring schematics

get another amp and get 2 18's... 2 FI BTL's or something like them like RD,T3,Atomic,DD,audiopulse,AudioQue,cactus sounds, sundown, treo, AB hd's...
sound far louder than the alpines could be and sound better

That's what I am leaning towards.

One of my other options not mentioned is to go 4 DD 9512's with 6000watt rms amp.

Dual 2ohm type-r's.
I would just do 1 6000watt rms amp, but the shop said that I would need 3 amps to get the resistance and all the wiring right... ???

2 would be fine...depending on the load you get um wired to you can do 1 big amp.
but 4 digital designs 9512's with 1 sd8000.1 is perfect. even a 5000 b/c they're rated at 12.6 anyways
got my 8000 for 800 a year ago for CAC

I'd wire the 6 12's to 1ohm. They would probably see as low as 0.5ohm sometimes.

P.S. I have 250 Amp alternator, BIG 3, Optima Yellow Top, 10 farad cap, and 2 Optima Blue tops. So electrical is covered.

naw the impedance usually wouldn't drop at all it would go up some, plus box rise.
but if thats your current elec system you cant run a true 6000rms amp... need some more power.
since you already have 4. 2 more doesnt cost much...grab a good strong amp froom 5000-8000rms... get rid of the optimas for some real batteries like xs and maybe do a dual alt setup...
