Not sure about the specs, but as far as getting the bearing out, you have 2 options

1. Blind hole bearing puller
2. White bread. No. Seriously. Put some bread int the hole, find a punch or extension or something that seals close to the bearing, smack it with a hammer, add more bread, rinse and repeat. You're pushing it out with hydraulic force

Regular grease works as well.

I called up the dealership. They had the part numbers I was missing... and the parts. It's a bit pricey but damn is that guy helpful so he wins the sale I pickup the remaining parts tomorrow.

I crawled under the truck to test the axle shaft housing bolts where mates to the diff housing. I was worried they might be stripped because some of the bolts had metal shavings on them :/

I am not sure how those shavings got there... The threads look mostly fine, but There's another issue with the threads on the diff housing. They're goober-ed up with stupid RTV debris. Whomever did this last put on TOO Much RTV and not the right type. There was RTV all over the place and a leak because it had eroded away.

I probably need to get a tap and dye set now to clean that out. Does Harbor freight have a good one or what would you recommend?

I've had to buy and return multiple bearings. I called a differential speciality shop only to learn he just buys parts from dealer and marks them up, go figure.

Then I went to GM Parts Direct and started dissecting parts numbers to find parts numbers... I called dealership as well.

However, everybody seems to be mixing up parts. The bearing at end of axle shaft, passenger side, is different from the diff housing output bearings. Everybody keeps mixing them up. Additionally the GM mechanical drawing / build of materials makes it look as though might be the same bearing.

The trick now is to find the bearing that is at the end of the axle shaft. Orielly has been my best friend, ordering, looking at bearings, and returning stuff.

I probably should have just bought one of those overhaul kits.

Anybody know the part number for output shaft bearing at passenger side? This diagram would be #4... However, the part number they pull for that is wrong. The outside of diameter of the bearing is too small.

I'm wondering if 2001 model year and or AWD used a different part number than the majority of models? I have idea how to verify that.

If you need an oversize one, grab the parts, run to a local industrial supply, give them the measurements and they can see what they have that fits. Local to me is this place called Tacoma Screw and Fastenal. Check around for what's near you

Many thanks, i finally got it figured out. I need to do a video with everythig I have learned. This is a very easy project but lots of pitfalls. The parts are very hard let alone the part numbers... unless you buy a master rebuild kit.

HF ones are junk. Irwin Hanson tap and die set or individual from Lowes. Mine are "Made in the USA". Old Sears Craftsman ones were well made too.

I'm now trying to get out the small bearing at end of stub shaft. The bread was a novel idea, however no way in hell will that work lol It's just squeezing bread out everywhere. I bought a nut the closest in size to the hole at ACE. I also tried wrapping with electrical tape for a tighter fit. Then I tried ball joint grease in there. No luck...

So, is there a puller that might go inside a 10mm hole? I tried the puller rental blind hole puller at autozone, no luck.

Update, use wax... works WAY better lol It came right out with wax and the end of the axle shaft.

Didn't work, but wax did
