i got quoted this today for dual exhaust with some off brand "40 series" mufflers... This seems like double what it should be..

Yeah I got a local shop to do my dual exhaust for $350. That's with the Flowmaster Super 40 and 4 inch tips. Granted mine is not stainless steel or anything fancy, just normal exhaust piping, but it's fine for me since i'm in Georgia, so no salt on the roads. Maybe you got a quote for a bolt on kit? I'd check around though if not.

What kind of pipe? If the quote was for a true dual exhaust in stainless steel it`s not a horrible price. I paid $800 for a catback in stainless with dual tails. The muffler was $200 alone.

That was with some off brand "40 series" mufflers and piping. I think all I really need is a 40 series welded in place and a nice tip welded on. I don't need anything fancy either. I was just surprised I guess. we had our trucks done back in IN with real flowmaster and magnaflow not a knock off for under $400...

If it's all mandrel bent stainless steel from exhaust manifold on back with new cats, nice tips and everything I'd say that's fair. Mandrel bending jacks the price up in my area, but for $900 you shouldn't be getting so off brand no name "40 series" muffler.

If your spending that much... Go with a Corsa exhaust system. I've got less than $200 in mine. Stock muffler cut out and replaced with a Magnaflow 12259 and a Corsa look a like tip welded on. Cheap and sounds great!

This right here. If you are considering a $900 price range, go with a Corsa cat-back for just a few dollars more. Otherwise, just go with a nice muffler and, maybe, a tip and call it good.
