ABS module repair

I have a 2001 Yukon XL SLT. The ABS light comes on intermittently. I had the dealer look at it and they read the OBD II code. It indicated a bad ABS module. I misplaced the paperwork that had the code so I don't know which code was given. The dealer said that the module is no longer available from GM. If they could find one, the cost would be over $1200. If I get one from an auto parts store. I have to figure out which of the several they have listed is correct and I have to get it flashed by a dealer. I found a couple places online that will rebuild the module. The OBD II code the dealer read is one that both placed say will be fixed by a rebuild and I won't have to have the module flashed by a dealer. The cost is less than $150 at both places. Has anyone used a rebuild place and are they any good? The places I found are circuitboardmedics.com and www.upfix.com. Are these places any good or is there a better place that I should use?

Those places that rebuild them are pretty good. I was talking to my buddy and he was telling me he's going to be sending his for repairs for his 01 Silverado

My 99 Silverado had it go out also. A few months ago I opted for the Dorman unit from AAP. It was pretty expensive, like $350 and that included the core.

I think RockAuto also has them, but cheaper.

I believe the only difference is if your vehicle had a sort of traction control option.

Search ABS modules on this site or on the internet. There is a very common failure mode on these modules and they are easy to fix if you know how to solder.

OP, is your problem actually in the ABS Module that is under the hood with the ABS pump OR is it the ABS manifold/valve body that is on the drivers side chassis rail under the driver door?

The process to "rebuild" the ABS Module is usually just resoldering all the solder joints on the relays and the coils on the circuit board. I repaired my module like this about 3-4 years ago and it's been working fine ever since. I have not had a single ABS light on ever since.
I took a ton of pictures and planned on doing a write-up in the how to section, but my phone was damaged before I saved all the pictures to the cloud. I remember seeing a write up somewhere on another forum, that's how I was able to do mine. So if you do enough Googley searching, you may find said write up.
But basically, you need to remove the module from the frame rail, and NOT strip out the Torx screws in the process. Cleaning ALL dirt and debris from the screw heads will help tremendously. After you get it off the truck, you remove all the small torx screws that hold the module together. I believe they are T-7. (It's been 4 years, I can't remember for sure). After you get all the screws out, you then need to cut the module open at the seams. It's glued together with some sort of sealant or RYV Silicone. I used a utility knife abs just slowly worked my way around it until I got the entire seal cut and able to take the two halves apart. After you get it opened up, you will clearly see some relays soldered on to the circuit board, along with a row of magnetic coils which trigger the solenoids. I re-soldered all of the solder joints on the relays and coils. I simply heated the solder to melt it, and added a bit more solder. After repairing all the solder joints, I used some RTV sealant to glue the module back together. I let the silicone cure overnight, then I re-installed the ABS module the next day. I used my code reader to reset the ABS light, and I have not had it come on ever since. Once again, sorry that I don't have the pictures showing the different steps.
