Adding an aftermarket radio to 07-14 FAQ

Im hoping someone here can help me out. I had installed a Kenwood DNX893S expensive stereo on a 2013 yukon denali. The features are great and better than the stock. I also have the maestro so i retained mostly everything (lost ability to have 2 channels on the wireless headphones). The problem i am having is with the wireless headphones. I have noticed that it works off and on. When its not working i have to turn the car off and than back on a few times to get it to work. I had it at the GMZ dealership a few times. The first time they said it was the IR transmitter-i replaced it and i did he same thing. The second time, they told me it was the control module, they replaced it and it still did the same thing. I also took it to the car stereo place that did the install and they checked the kenwood out and said the problem is somewhere in the wiring because everything was working up to the factory harness. Im looking for help as i just want my kinds to be able to listen to their movie and my wife and i dont have to hear it. any ideas what the problem is?

I see a lot of threads asking about what to get to install a new head unit so figure we should make a sticky with all the info.

This will be updated as you, the experts, give more or correct my information. It has been years since I done one of these and I know products have changed. If you have a suggested part that you feel should be added please provide as much information and a link to the manufacturers website for that part.

I just installed these in 2013 Yukon XL. Bose. No Nav.

Works fine. I installed Pioneer 1300NEX.


PROS:
Super easy.
Works
The OBI stuff it kinda neat

CONS:

I did have to use the supplied microphone from Pioneer. The factory mic does not integrate.
I had to use the Metra supplied speaker for the chimes/blinker sound.
Hard to fit all the wires in Dash
There doesn't seem to be a way to connect the backup camera to the Pioneer screen, but it does show the park assist zones

Overall:
I'm happy with it.

im not sure what was used, but when it works it works fine. I just have to turn the car off and than on again a time or two at startup. I can tell if its working by visualizing the red lights on the IR in the overhead console. Thats the only issue....everything else works...steering wheel controls, back up cam (except the distance lines are static and no longer dynamic and do not turn with steering wheel anymore). its just odd that it takes a engine restart to make it work. when the headphones do not work, im still getting a picture to the monitor just no sound through the IR transmitter.

I hope I am not violating any forum rules by sharing an external URL. Here is a link to Crutchfield's Research Garage which goes into detail about the options available on the NNBS/GMT900 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, etc. Crutchfield Research Garage . Even if you do not order the parts from Crutchfield they have a wealth of knowledge and pretty much list all the parts you need based on your Make/Model/Year. If you purchase from them it comes with their mastersheet that provides step-by-step instructions on how to install everything and retain the factory options.

I recently added a pioneer 4200nex with a PAC rp5. The issue I'm having is that the factory head unit was the no screen model, meaning the back up camera goes to the mirror. The rp5 integration module came with a harness that connects the factory brown plug, camera/sub/center to the aftermarket head unit, but that brown plug wasn't begins the radio. Where can I find this plug, as I want my subwoofer back. I am extremely disappointed in the outcome and am considering going back to the factory head unit.

You need an additional PAC harness that retains the rear entertainment. But I dont remember the subwoofer being on this plug, it was just the red/yellow/white rca for rear? I bought same setup as you with rp5 gm31 and trying to remember the other harness but its listed on PAC site and instructions. But at the end, you get a yellow RCA that connects to the rear camera port on back of 4200 nex (brown rca port) and below that are the 2 RCA's for subwoofer. The connection for sub from car to PAC is only 1 RCA but the 4200 is ready to take 2 (red/white). I think even if my sub is unplugged, I still get the subwoofer working. Its only if I unplug the specific harness for sub that goes to bose amp that it stops working. Hope this helps.
