AFM yay or nay?

Once the Denali is past the bumper to bumper extended warranty I purchased it’s definitely getting a tune w AFM disables.

Another side note...if you happen to know any local dealer techs or service writers odds are someone knows how to tune out the AFM using the dealer equipment...(I didn’t tell u that! )...good friend of mine has been a service writer for decades and he says he can ‘hook me up’ w one of his guys to disable the factory AFM in the software in a matter of minutes...but don’t expect their support if I have a warranty issue...lol...

If buying the Range Device make sure you get it from them. This way you know your getting the current version which is 8.6 R1. I think they have a $10 coupon going on now as well.

Well I definitely cannot knock the concept of getting a tune. I suppose it would be foolish at that point to not disable the AFM while the tuner is poking around the PCM anyways. My brother does HP Tuners and even made a nice video series on YouTube for the DIY’r with the mission of increasing MPG’s.

.....this is easily cured by turning off the vehicle, opening a door to kill all accessories, unplug the Range, restart w/out the Range plugged in...then after about 20-30secs (for vehicle monitors to stabilize) plug it in while running which they call a ‘Hot Install’ - it sends a signal to clear all errors while the Range boots up and removes the check engine light...has also been useful to clear other indicators that seemed to trigger for no reason. Outside those two issues it works great. Just make sure the one you get has the most recent version of Range’s firmware installed!

This is good to know, thanks for the enlightenment. One thing I forgot to point out was this device does draw minor current when vehicle is off. So if parking for longer terms like days or weeks I would unplug it.

Have they fixed the problem with the Range device killing peoples batteries? I read that the "unplug unit while planning to not drive for a few days" clause is still in the instructions..

I keep mine plugged in all the time. The longest I went without driving is 3 days and have no problem with battery drain. I think the latest software addressed the battery drain issue.

The battery drain issue is the only thing really holding me back, that and if I can confirm that the Flashpaq can do AMF and TPMS Id be willing to purchase it instead.
On the other forums people are buying this switched extension to combat the battery drain issue so they dont break there OBD port by plugging and unplugging all the time...

I've had a range AFM disabler in my hoe since day one. 16k miles later and I'm still smiling. Yay for disable. NAY for AFM. If I wanted a 4 cylinder I would have bought one.

I think you would have the problem by now, but I would disable it if I were you. I had a 2009 Suburban that had an oil burning problem. Started around 60k. Burned a quart every 1800 through #1 piston. GM did the oil deflector and valve covers, but it was too late. Sold it at 92K miles. I don't think I'd buy a GM again because of it. They were like, we'll give you a discount if you trade it in. Right. Was a GM person for decades. Never again. Either they didn't fully test it or they don't care, but it is an unnecessary problem and one on a very expensive vehicle. Disable it.
