Air bubbles in the coolant reservoir

I pressure tested mine using a MityVac kit and at 10 psi it takes an hour to drop 1 psi. The leak shown in my previous post was at something like 14 psi or so. If one is expecting to see a pressure drop in a short period of time I would expect that mine would pass even with the leak.

I used the $300+ rental kit from autozone when I tested it the first time, ran it up to 15 psi per the reservoir cap rating. wasn't going to buy one for something I might only ever use a couple times. Once I get the results back from blackstone I'll figure out what to do from there

I have used my Mityvac vacuum tester for many many things over the years so I figured for less than $50 from Amazon the MV4560 would be good enough for as you say a couple uses here and there. I must say though it takes a lot of pumping that little gadget to get a useful pressure!! For the leak test I did at ~14 psi I topped off the surge tank to nearly full with dexcool before I started pumping. Less air volume equals less pumping you know!! Siphoned it out later after the test.

That looks about like what I remember from a short time I worked as a mechanic in the late '70s. A little steep for my wallet now when as Doubeleive says a couple uses now & then.

I got mine when I had the 3.8 LeSabre with the imploding intake manifold gasket. It was on sale, and my vehicles are usually 10 years or older. As I said in another thread, I've had to fix 3 or 4 coolant leaks on my Tahoe, similarly on my Explorer, and also similarly on my my Lesabres. The only vehicle that seemed rock solid was my 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis. I loved that car. For that matter, it's too bad GM got out of the BOF sedans. On the other hand, now that we have SUVs, I wouldn't go back to any sedan now.

So, yeah, I've used mine more than a few times. (Also, in Canada, the parts stores don't lend out tools for free.)

autozone will rent tools out (as they call it), the catch is you basically buy it and then they refund you when you return it, they have a inventory of tools they use for this purpose.

I bet they do that because everyone does that to them anyway. I upgraded my creeper last month. It was dirty as heck because some one bought it, used it, then returned it. I kept it anyway because it was on sale, and I'd get it dirty anyway. Also, Covid-restrictions came about that weekend anyway.

Any update from Blackstone?
just took the sample yesterday, sending it out today. it's weird the oil looks fine it's not leaking coolant that I can see on the ground anywhere, if it's burning the coolant off enough to not make a milk shake I don't know I might just sell it cheap and buy another one it works fine does need a couple little things I need to pull the airbag module out and have that reprogrammed and I think it needs a brake flush I'm getting a random "service brake system" that is the proportioning valve sensor so a flush may or may not clear that up or just replace the valve. To me it's not worth doing a whole engine rebuild when I can buy a whole truck with lower miles for the same price it would cost me.
