My understanding from the GM Tech is that the Tech 2 can no longer be used for programming modules, because GM implemented a new programming interface standard, and deprecated the programming interface that was used with the Tech 2. Many folks have converted to an Autel bi-directional scanner for actual programming of modules (~$500).

the autel adapter needed for programming is a j2534 pass thru device and is sold-separately and is closer to $1000 it is pretty much just like a mdi2

there's a new gear wrench branded scanners out. they seem like a good value. I do wonder if they work as a pass thru without the extra cost. I'm been pretty happy with the gear wrench level of rebranded stuff. seems a decent middle ground tool.

I've been tempted to try the smaller app based dongle 150$ one. see if it's any good.

I may purchase one of these bi-directional scanners, particularly if it can also service the Honda brand vehicles. Can you point me to a specific scanner on that page of several scanners that you would suggest?

That's just the pass thru part, the device should say all the systems it supports I don't know what system Honda uses haven't owned one in over 30 years
