It should be a safety concern. When it cracks on the right side of the dashboard, the jagged edge could cause the airbag to deflate even before it finishes inflating in the event of a serious crash. Hopefully, some day, the government will view it as a safety issue. That's my 2 cents worth.....
The chance of that happening is slim to none.

Welcome to the club. Windshield tint does help, but I got mine done after the dash cracked so its no use of it now.

Mine was cracked around the airbag when I test drove it, made it being repaired contingent on me buying it.

When I picked it up after the repair was done, it looked great and I even got a free buzz from the chemicals that the vinyl guy used to do it with.

The next morning it had split again. I took it back and they (carmax), ordered and brand new dash and installed it the next day. No questions asked.

I'll be tinting the windshield this weekend as well.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes, it sucks bad. I always keep it clean, nothing on it but protectant.

It is a BAD design overall, kind of problems that go back to 1982. Pathetic Shame for 2007-2010 though.

What tint percentage are you guys using? It is Illegal in NC I think for the windshield to be done.

Hey Question.......... Are the new dashes they are putting in them redesigned or made with different plastics?

Or this going to happen again to the replacements too?

This would be the perfect opportunity to do the Escalade dash conversion.

Silver lining ftw!

I think this dash crack thing has more to do with the dash getting weaker and weaker due to the sun. I am guessing over time it dries out and gets brittle enough to snap. A dash protectant (like Meguiars), tint, and parking out of the sun probably go a long way to preventing it.
At the end of the day it is still a GM design flaw though.

^ +1.

I had a cracked dash on the 2007 Burb I just recently purchased and it was fixed by the Dealer prior to me signing the deal.

To me, a garage does not help a lot as most of us take our vehicles to work where they are parked in the sun ALL day during working hours, where it is the worst/hottest time of the day. (Brutal here in Northern Cali during the summer months).

I put a velour dash mat on my ladies Burb, a perfect match to the dash color. Furthermore, I ask her all the time to put her windshield visors up to keep the sun from beating on the Interior of the truck.

In my opinion, it is not only the heat which is causing the issue, it is also the UV rays from the sun that make the dash materials weak in order to crack.

However, I COMPLETELY AGREE, I think it is a design flaw, as I do not have any, nor have I ever heard of any problems on the OBS or NBS Trucks.
