In the owners manual, under ACC (page 235), it states "ACC will not set or resume at a speed less than 25 km/h (16 mph)."
Under Forward Automatic Braking (page 246). it states: "The system works when driving in a forward gear above 4 km/h (2 mph)."

So if automatic braking only works when ACC is engaged, how can it work at 2 mph when ACC can't be used until 16 mph?

Is the manual wrong or is the system malfunctioning when not in ACC?

Not working as advertised for me

Did you watch the video

That was 5mph, front alarms go off (so vehicle is sensing the object) but zero braking

Try it yourself with an empty rubber trash can or a sheet hanging down from your open garage door and report back

I don't doubt what you show in the video. It helps verify what I am experiencing.

I took my Yukon back to the dealer this week to have the airbag recall implemented.

When I went to pick it up today, I asked to speak to their "Expert" technician regarding the automatic braking.

He told me that the reason that the Forward Automatic Braking (FAB) and Forward Collision Alert (FCA) on my vehicle only worked when the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) was engaged was because I did not have RPO UV6 installed on my vehicle.

UV6 is heads-up display and is not offered on the SLT, so I think he was either trying to B.S. me or didn't know what he was talking about.

He tried to tell me that the green "vehicle ahead indicator" on the dash would only turn amber when the ACC was engaged and my vehicle got too close to the one in front of me, but not if ACC was disengaged.

This sounds crazy to me because ACC is suppose to slow the vehicle to match the speed of the one in front, so it should not get too close unless the vehicle in front stopped. Under that condition the automatic braking should already be taking effect.

In a previous vehicle, a 2014 Acadia Denali, I had the FCA option (it did not have Adaptive Cruise Control or automatic braking). Whenever I got to within a cars length to the vehicle in front of me, the vehicle indicator turned amber. I'm having a hard time believing GM would have the same system on two different vehicles that operate differently.

So now, I have written a letter to GMC Customer Assistance to see if anyone there knows and can explain how their vehicles are supposed to operate.

I'm pretty sure my Denali has every option available (including HUD) and my FAB only works at higher speeds while using cruise control.

Dealer update, says working as designed ... basically, front braking will only stop for vehicles (and only if it detects a vehicle noted by the green car icon in the dash) while rear braking will stop for almost any obstacle not just vehicles

That's why I hit the trash can in front (earlier video) but truck will stop if anything is rear like this video -

So front braking works without cruise control ? And rear braking just happens? Hmmm. I'll have to look into this on mine. Pretty sure it would let me back into something.

Front braking will work but needs 2 conditions

Object in front has to be a vehicle and the system needs to "see" this vehicle (on a Escalade, that's the green car icon in the dash)

I was hoping that front braking would work like rear braking ie stopping me from hitting almost anything from behind at low, ie parking lot, speeds

Isn't the 3rd condition that the cruise control be on?

Uncertain, and that's one that I can't/hope I'll never have to test ... if ACC is on, I know she definitely will stop and hope that it isn't a requirement

I'm not sure I'm following. Are you saying your front braking brakes, even at low speeds, without cruise control on?

What year is yours?
