I agree with above user, like I stated before. I have 265/75/16 with an agressive mud tread and I get 16mpg. I think with a street tread I could do 18.

my current truck is dodge ram(at least till I can get the tahoe I am looking for) and with street tires inflated to 45psi I avg 14 in town and 21 on the hwy.

put the same size terra grapplers on inflated to their max 35psi and I lose 1.5-2 mpg.

wow - those are some high inflation rates.

I'm probably naive on this issue, but i've always run @ 32psi...can most tires safely run as high in the mid 40s for our Hoes? Negatives to running that high?

do you have any mods done? anything like exhaust, CAI, e-fan, etc?

nope, it's still bone stock.
i imagine if i had a performance tune i definitely wouldn't be getting those numbers though, and i'd be right along some of the other dudes here getting 10-12mpg :)

Sparg, not all tires can be pushed to 40PSI, it really depends on your specific tire, whether it's an LT or a Passenger tire, and the load range.

I got a 95 'hoe that needed a lot of work and I've only just recently begun to start getting her fixed. In browsing all of the available tires I too was surprised to see a light truck tire rated for higher than ~35PSI.

Here is a link to the page I was looking at... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=55

Hopefully you can find some relatively cheap tires that you can push the pressure up a little bit on. Maybe even try to pick up a used pair of tires on Craigslist just to see if it helps before you spend money on brand new tires.

i think i mentioned it before that i was disregarding the tire size. i'm on 285/75/16's and stock is 265 so i'm not that far off to make that much of a noticeable difference. they're bfgoodrich all terrains so not as aggressive as a mud tire. they only have bout 35% tread left so they're not aggressive compared to new either lol and yes i do a lot of hwy driving

my Yukon came with new tires (Continental brand - wtf?), and they looked a little low this winter, so i put'em up to about 38psi. they say max was 45, so it's all good. they no longer look like they're deflating lol

fuel system upgrade

If you want more mpg try this; I have a 1999 Tahoe 4dr 4wd with 177K miles on it. Driving it for work or to Lake Havasu (from So Cal) towing a boat I always averaged 13-13.5mpg. It ran pretty good, but had a miss (sometimes) when climbing a grade while towing. I replaced Plugs, wires, dist cap & rotor a few times and that seemed to help for a while. But when it recently developed a misfire on cyl #4, I converted the SCFI to MPI and it runs like I never imagined it could. My mpg is up to 18+ without ever a sputter and it feels like it has an additional 100HP ! It's an easy upgrade. The kit is available at most auto parts stores for $300 and you will also need a plenum gasket set. It's a two hour job at most. This is not a half-ass repair in fact GM has a service bulletin suggesting it before replacing even a single injector on the original SCFI.

This sounds like a pretty good idea... but I don't know what those abbreviations stand for :p
