The ones I've done have snap rings ive been doing it for 6 years. Mine was the same exact way on my autoride truck. Once you push up on the lower spring perch you will see it. Im not sure what im saying wrong here that your not understanding?

There is a snap ring Mooded thats all that holds the lower spring perch in place.

Here is new oem stock shocks from a tahoe you can see the snap ring here also. No buldge none of that. SAME EXACT SETUP for a trailblazer ss

Ok I just went and checked my stock shock in the garage. You are right. The stock shock do use snap rings. I did not see them because the shock body and snap rings are both black.
But, not all aftermarket shocks do not use snap rings. That is what led to my confusion here. My Bilstein HDs (not 100% sure, but pretty sure) and Belltechs both use a raised lip/bulge design.
So that means this mod can only work with stock shock.

After examining it, it is safe to let Tony, or anyone else, machine a groove in the shock to lower the front end. If someone else does it, make sure they do not go too deep.
With a new groove and the snap ring placed in it, it is like having the Belltech SP struts, or McG coil relocators for a good amount cheaper.
The stock shocks do suck when lowered though because of their design.

I know we dont see eye to eye but I thought you would have just looked at the pics and been like ok instead of carrying this all out. Making me feel like you were trying to prove it wasnt true lol but all good lesson learned.

The mod works ive been doing it since late 2006 on the first 07 truck i did since I have been doing it on the trailblazers since 2003 same concept. At almost 10 years of milling i havent had one issue in either trailblazers and or tahoes.

There are lots of guys who called me on this and i helped the machine shops over the phone but main thing as I tell the local guys I only like doing 1 inch on this set up. You can do 2 inches yes but over 1.25 inch shock stroke lost i feel is to much.

As for ride quality at the 1 inch level NO LOSS in ride at all and for the price I charge to do this its well worth it best of all I can mill each shock different to get rid of the GM lean as I did for my escalade.

CAUTION--------ANYONE DOING THIS TO AUTORIDE SHOCKS MUCH HOLD THE SHOCK SHAFT STILL WHILE UNLOOSENING THE NUT OR YOU WILL BREAK THE SHOCK AND THERE GOES 300 DOLLARS. I made my own tool to do this because there is no way you can get any socket in there and hold the shaft at same time if a impact is on it.

PS= im glad after you examined it you give the stamp of approval....its been stamped and approved for a while now :drink_nl: Drink time !!!!

did another truck today and since you got the pedders just wanted to show you between the 2. Installed 5 coils were also resting on eachother on the pedders coils and had a clean 2.75 inch drop over stock. Customer didnt want the truck slammed since I only did the front for a 1 inch drop with my strut mod. 1 inch drop in front with these springs in the rear looked good. Looking forward to seeing how your truck looks.

Thanks for the updates and the clarifications Tony.

So to sum it all up............

The STOCK shocks use snap rings to hold the perch in place.

AFTERMARKET shocks use the bulge to hold the perch in place.

The Strut Mod is ONLY good for STOCK Shocks.

Stock struts use a snap ring

Belltech Drop struts have a welded ring on the shock which is placed lower (pretty much same concept behind the snap ring sitting lower down on the stock shock)

You can lower the stock shock up to 2 inches same concept as lowering springs or mcgaughys drop mounts

Bad thing stock shocks at 2 inch level shaft is 1.25+ farther into the shock body not good.

At 1 inch level NO ISSUES with my modified stock shocks and this is over a 6 year period of time. Also ride is the same doesn't change.

Proven many times over on both non autoride shocks and stock autoride shocks best of all $30 dollars to do.

@ Tony.......

So my front stockers have 57,000 miles on them.

I was thinking of doing Bilsteins in the front.

Do the Bilsteins use the snap ring design or a raised ring bulge design?

The reason I was hoping for Blsteins is because I LOVE the way the stock Z-71 Suburbans drive and handle, and I wanted the same for my truck.

I was thinking I would buy brand new Bilstein HD's, do your strut mod, be dropped one inch, and be done with it.

Is this a welded in ring or a snap ring. I can't tell.

I wish you sold "Pre-Modded" Bilstein HD's.
