Just wondering if anyone has a solution to oil leaking out of the oil filler tube where it meets the valve cover...Its not much but appears to be enough to make it smell inside the truck...I cant find anywhere else it would be coming from and its for sure not antifreeze smell...Any opinions or advise would be great. Thanks.

I can't remember if that had a seal or not.
However the neck screws in just like the cap.
Take it out and wipe it all off. If it has a gasket/seal, just replace it. Will be cheap anyway.
I believe you can put the cap straight into the valve cover too.

Thanks for the reply. It does have a gasket but GM does not sell it separately from the fill tube itself, it sells a unit...what a bunch of crap that is. It also appears I might have some leakage from the back of both valve covers...Could you recommend a good gasket to replace them with? Thanks again, Im new to this type of center fasten valve cover...all my other small blocks are oldies.

I put a felpro gasket on mine.
It is (all should be one piece) a one piece rubber gasket. (rubber type material)
Can take a pic of one of the gaskets off my Camaro, pretty sure they were the same.

Try a parts store for the gasket, www.lmctruck.com , www.classicindustries.com
Or you can buy a roll of gasket paper/cork/think rubber and cut your own.

On my 96 I had to take off the acceossory brackets to get the covers. off.
Power steering/alt/ and brackets.

Thanks...I asked only because I read a couple other threads with people claiming in these center fastened valve covers they always leak in the back and I thought maybe they made some other ones that might keep them better. I use felpro gaskets on other older motors that work fine...thanks for the reply. I sort of figured I would have to move a few things to get them off...Do you glue yours on the cover or just put them on loose?

I do remember I did not use any type of sealant.
If I recall correctly (was sometime 2009) the gasket set in the valve cover and was held in place enough to set the valve cover on the engine.
