What’s a tech2? I could google it but figure I’d ask you anyways lol

It's the scan tool that GM uses to diagnose and work on these trucks with. It can also reprogram modules. GM has moved on to another system, the Tech2s price has come way down now when purchased from overseas and will work on cars from 1996-2013. Search the forum and you'll my threads and others on the subject.

I will do a search for more, but two questions off the bat.

Won't they work for 2014 also?

I know that Tech 2s and solid knock offs are available,
but isn't the software still a little tricky?

You can get a loaded laptop, or get the software to work, but how do you deal with the yearly update issue?

Will this have been driven in the northern states with winter salt on the road?
Regardless check these
1. TPS sensor
2. Brake light sensor
3. Cruise control
These three tie in together. If the brake light switch goes so do the others. Garbage engineering
4. Fuel pump. Although located in the tank, the top is exposed to the elements. Make sure it's not rusted out. Again more garbage engineering
5. Wheel hub assembly. PPVs get the crap driven out of them over pot holes and curbs.
6. Make sure the tools to remove the spare tire come with it
7. If the external light system has been removed make sure holes have been plugged or filled. Hopefully it hasn't been sitting in the rain in they were too lazy (look at headliner for water spots).
8. Make sure rear doors are returned to normal unlock / lock function

That's the usual min check over we do hear in canada.

I think the Tech2 would work on a GMT900 but not the K2. 2014 was the last year for the Yukons, Tahoe and Suburbans and I would think (don't know for sure) that these would have the same systems as prior years. 2014 Was the first year for the Silverado and Sierra K2 if memory serves.

What do you mean by tricky software? Are you referring to the Tis2Web or TIS2000? On that I'm not so sure but I have poked around the TIS2Web and we can buy a 3-day subscription for $55 or so and get the modules needed for reprogramming. I did get TIS2000 fully loaded onto an old laptop and looked around once but have not had to since.

I have not had to do any of that yet and not so well versed. Maybe someone else can chime in?

2011 ppv with 147k miles
Has acouple door dings
Both front fenders have some dents n scuffs so I prly will get new fenders.
Not sure if I wanna keep it blue or get a paint job. My buddy cousin owns a body shop so I could prly get a decent cheap paint job.
Also not sure if I wanna put some headlights and taillights and rims on it and try to flip it tax time. Lol

First time I’ve seen a PPV in blue, looks damn good if you ask me.

Howdy and thanks! A large part of my family is from the Granite Falls area- NC is an incredible state. I live in DFW- great for business but not for trees haha.

I will create a new thread in the PPV section to document our repair progress, however I am attaching a before picture. Our goal is to use the SUV as a light work and occasional weekend travel vehicle. That doesn't mean we won't take great care of it. I'm thinking about reinstalling an aftermarket center console for work purposes (laptop mount, etc.) and a couple other accessories to restore some of its unique flair. Will keep you posted!

Your truck may already have the holes for the upfitter laptop mount, so look around the front passenger footwell for the holes. Also check underneath in case they covered them.

NY is kinda black/blue.... my truck, with plow mounts and elec hook-ups matches pretty good and must look like a trooper because people are always getting out of my way.... my kids always say why are people moving over....lol
