I've been getting the code for random misfire for about 2 yrs now .
Usually happens on the highway, speeding and driving normally, doesn't matter , truck has never skipped a beat. Has ran great except for that code. My friend finally scanned it for me . It was live data. Misfire code was from the maf, I have a drop in k+n, so he said might be because of that(oiled filter) but never got a code for that. Random misfire was showing on cyls 2, 4, 6, 8, and I think 1 and 5. Showing high count misfires, forgot what cylinders tho. He said cat might also be bad on that bank(no codes ).He wants to do a leak down on it also. Truck still runs great. I've been pricing out 6.0's , which are expensive. I found a 4.8 with 115,000 on it for $500, just the long block and intake. Been thinking about that and getting a cam installed. I heard cams aren't bad to do in the LS motors, and the motor will be out of the truck .Think this would be the way to go? Since I can't afford a 6.0. Does the 4.8 have potential? I don't really want to mess with the motor that I have, just in case, as it has almost 275,000 on it already. Sorry if I'm a bit confusing, my mind and thoughts are all over the place right now. Thx for any input.

I'm not looking to go too crazy, just something a little better, since I can't afford it. I see one or two cam choices that I like. Thx for the info and links. Is there any info on the heads that come on our motors? I know some are better then others .

I know that heads made by castech are known to crack, Their logo is somewhere under the rocker arms. If i remember correctly there are 706 and 862 heads with the 862 being the best choice. I`m going off memory so if i`m wrong hopefully someone here corrects me.

Thx for the info .I found somewhere on line saying the 317 heads we're crappy. Better heads we're , I think, 799 and 249's , which we're actually the same heads , except the 799's we're sand cast . I actually have a lead on a complete 05 6.0, harness and computer for $850. Supposedly only has 111,000 on it.

Man I hope you get that 6.0! That would be sweet. I've been thinking about getting one and building it ( including a blower) in my spare time so someday I could just swap it out.

Hope I can get it too! Think everything will bolt right up with no problems? There's a 4.8 in there now.

There's threads on it. I believe you will need a tune afterwards. That's about all I know.
