Cheaper to keep her?

2007 4x4 LT Tahoe with 139k miles. I have had it for a year now and during my ownership I have replaced everything you can think that needs replacing on these trucks with that mileage. Wheel bearings, Fuel pump, Brakes, Sparkplugs, Wires, Belts, New Battery, New O2 sensors, Driveshaft, EVAP solenoid, etc...

Small amounts of rust are present on back door edges (paint bubbles which are noticeably getting bigger) and hood lip. There is also a lot of it on the frame which I am not too concerned with as it's common for our cars that come from the north. We don't have a payment on the Tahoe, if I do buy better one I would be getting a loan on it.

I love driving this truck. Minus leaving me stranded in the work parking lot due to a bad battery it has served my family well over the last 11k miles and 1 year of ownership. Is it better to fix the rust, just leave as is and live with it or trade up to a better condition Tahoe? If I do get a better Tahoe then the current one, considering the price range (~$25k) I am concerned that I will still be needing to replace above mentioned items which I have already addressed on this one.

I say if its paid for - keep driving it. Repair the rust only where it NEEDS fixing but like the frame - leave. It will continue to get worse no matter what you do, but if the body is in good shape just fix the small stuff. Doing small repairs here and there is much better than having a monthly note.

Other option is to sell it and look for a southern truck with no rust and try to get the smallest payment possible. Id probably keep rocking what you have though.

Keep it. You've done the maintenance, should last you a long time. Anything you buy used will need all that stuff all over again.

Thanks guys, that's what I am leaning towards too, given nothing major mechanically breaks down any time soon at which point I would be leaning towards pulling the plug on it.

From far away you wouldn't suspect any rust as the truck looks pretty sharp for it's age (see pic), that's what makes it hard to get rid of it.

Definitely keep! tons of life left in it and as stated just fix the things that bug ya. I've got 176k on mine and she's running strong!! :waytogo:

You might want to check GM's warranty on rust perforation. You might still be covered on these generation SUV's. And yes, if you already spent all that money on it you might as well keep it. You problably should have asked that question before you spent all that money on repairs. I just put 1500 dollars on our 2008, first time and this was only maintenance. Original owner. It has been a great car so it was worth it to me to spend that much in 8 years. I'm keeping it for awhile longer.

Pictures of the rust? It may be fairly cheap to have it cut out, replaced and have the paint blended.n

Keep it, I have no doubt it'll get you to 200k and beyond. Have you deleted AFM yet?

Keep her. You've put money into significant repairs already, and you run the risk of repeating those expenditures if you trade for another rig. Keep an eye on her and enjoy.
