I know that vortecs are known for using lots of oil, and im about to flip 150,000. But it seems like every two weeks the check engine oil comes on. When should i get worried about an oil leak, or is this just normal?

Check for leaks, especially from your trans cooler if you have one

it should be at least a quart low before the check oil light comes on, if not then the sensor may be funky, meaning a quart under the normal line on dipstick.
the dipstick is kind of weird. its just 5 dots. I put in about a quart to get it to the 3rd dot

I have 180,000+ miles on my 03 and don't use any oil. Maybe some of the later DOD motors do.

I just did an oil change, and noticed that when it is full with 6qts it is just a hair under the 5th dot, if that gives you some reference point. Id say the light is coming on when you are about 1-1/2 quarts low, maybe a little more.
