So again I ask ... what about the tens, if not hundreds of thousands of vehicles rotting in people's yards and properties all over the country?

It's been addressed already. Different ordinances in different places. Some have it, some don't. Those who don't have it, rot away. Those that do, get it running or move it.

Gzes....I'm pretty sure that if your ride was towed by court order you're not shooting at anyone unless you want to go to prison!

This seems like one of those things that the deeper South you go the less ordinances there are.

I did notice btw that the OP's location is Flint Mi ... not surprising considering the state of the town's tax revenues that they're enforcing every ordinance they can dig up.

Times are beyond tough up there.

Yea but wouldnt they still hold you accountable since it was on your property? Like i said id just show reciepts and say the vehicle was getting repaired so it would be operable and then they will be more likely to be like ok he is repairing it so it shouldnt be unoperable for much longer. And then throw it out

You have options, remove it, or put plates on it

What was the exact statute they cited on the citation? Something doesn't smell right. Although Robbie makes a valid point it doesn't mean he's right. After all, I'm sure private collections exist of unregistered and unlicensed cars that don't get cited. That's because they are on private property. Additionally, people can own cars without having a driver license, thus they wouldn't be able to license it until it had its safety and/or emissions inspections performed.

Was the vehicle actually parked on your property as designated by your lease or deed? PM me the exact statute and I'll look into it.

No safety and/or emissions inspections here.

I looked into the local and state ordinances for the OPs area. State only has licensing/registration laws foyer vehicles operating on the highways. So, they don't care if it's in his driveway. Local statutes only pertain to abandoned vehicles. The vehicle obviously isn't abandoned.

In my opinion (disclaimer: taking into consideration that I'm not a licensed legal expert at all), I think the OP wins if he challenges it. It looks so easy that he could do it Pro Se.

Just for clarification.. If a uniformed officer comes on your property to tow a vehicle away you are going to "protect your property" up to and including the use of a firearm? Am I understanding this properly?
