If it feels any different after replacing the shocks, then the shocks are what caused the change. If it's mushy now, then the new shocks aren't as firm as your old shocks. Why did you remove the Autoride shocks?

Compressor was shot and the air bladders on the shocks where trashed

Mine are trashed as well and the compressor has never ran for as long as I've owned it, which has only been about 4 months. The shock dampening itself seems fine. You could reinstall your old shocks or find a better aftermarket replacement than what you have now. When new shocks are freshly installed, they are almost always firmer than what they replaced. If your new ones are softer, then they are either inadequate/improperly valved for the application or are just a really soft shock. If it feels mushy and especially if it feels lesser-controlled, then you need firmer shocks. You could replace your spring with stiffer ones, but then the ride quality would suffer. Apparently, there is a direct-replacement shock specifically for converting from Autoride.
