It didn't take long to make my first modification to this modification project.

The Console Safe will no longer be used for a full-size 9mm pistol storage compartment. I permanently removed the cover plate with the finger hole that covers the inside lower portion of the Console Safe where you can hide some small items if you wish, cut the felt cover in the right spot, and have used velcro fasterners to attach a holster that I won't be wearing anymore. Now, a .38 Colt Detective Special straight out of the 1960s is sitting in that holster. That leaves lots of available storage space for other items.

These Tahoes are fun to customize. And that Console Safe is a neat product! :)

Lets just hope you don't need it when your still in motion because its on your ignition keys.
Love the install and a great way to keep it safe from others.
I would love it if I can keep the center consul and they would come out with a glove box locker. Sucks that it will take the ONLY storage spot in the whole truck. JMO. Or a locker that is attached to the door and sits in the drivers door magazine pocket. that would also be great but very tight.

If I wanted to, the key could be left in the lock so that with a quick turn, access could be obtained to the weapon. But then I'd have to remember to remove the key and put it in a pocket.

A picture below of where the weapon can also stay with very quick access when not locked in the Console Safe by Lock'er Down, and that's on the driver's side door in the black Allen rug:

I'm a little late to the thread but I came across it during my search for a better locking storage solution for the Tahoe.

I like these type of vaults a lot, but I wish they didn't take up so much room in the center console. I use one of the console storage trays to keep small things like sunglasses, pens, napkins at the ready and then larger items below. It appears these vaults are too tall to still be able to still use that tray.

Right now I'm using a COM lock box (aka Gunvault nano) bolted to two of the console mounting holes. While it works for locking storage, the box isn't tall enough to store a holstered gun, it would be preferable if I'm required to disarm for my destination to just remove and store the gun and holster as a single unit.

Thanks for your review of the console safe! I was looking for one, but I think with the 4 digits lock system (I know I'm bad with keys!).

New safe for Tahoe

Steven,
I am in the process of building a new design to compliment or replace the one you bought. I am not sure what people will want, but I sent one like you bought to the FBI in Cleveland for their SWAT Suburbans, and they felt it was too small. My new design will fill the console, and must be assembled inside. When it is ready, I will post photos. If you or anyone else, would prefer the new design over the old, I will swap even, customer pay shipping both ways.

I'm not really sure wich one i will need to pick.

The USB port is available with the new design? And the power outlet? (I dont think but it's ok)

And with the future box (need to be assembled in the console) nobody will be able to "steal" the box right? (Sorry if my questions are stupid!)
