Sounds expensive. You might want to look into just trading your ride in for one that is equipped with it.

AWD is basically RWD that kicks into 4H when needed. You have no control over it.
The 4WD versions allow you to select 2WD, Auto (AWD), 4H, and 4L manually. I use a Tahoe off road in sand and mud almost every day at work. I promise you that there is a HUGE difference between Auto (AWD) and 4H/L.

and not comparing...just stating that i like the feel of awd, and instead of picking up another payment i will just continue on with a 6.0 swap with the possibility of doing a awd swap....
but it might be that i just need to sell mine and get a 04-06 denali and be done with it.
This would be your most fiscally sound choice. Converting "can" be done but would cost so much in labor and man hours that it doesn't make much sense unless it's a project you really want to tackle. If budget is a concern, definitely look at trading your rig for one w/ awd from the factory, it will be cheaper than the conversion and fewer problems down the road too.
