Even if I replaced my engine with a similar new one I would still see more power and better fuel economy right? Since engines lose power over time and all.

If it's a bone stock gm engine yes. I didn't see any gain in fuel mileage because of the cam, head work and other parts

What are the differences between the 862 and 706 heads? I haven't found a definite answer yet. The rebuilt engine I'm looking at says it comes with either 862 or 706 heads. What differences would I notice going from 862's to the 706's like the one they have pictured?
Also, they would definitely be aware of the cracking head issue and wouldn't use the old superseded heads right? Maybe that's a dumb question but I just want to make sure.

Yes I was asking. I have 277k on mine and it has good oil pressure, not sure about yours and if that is why you are looking at replacing the whole engine.

check this thread out, guys doing a 5.3 swap in a 84 pick up. he scored a used tahoe, took its engine and tranny, parted out the rest and he'll have a free engine pretty much. just like his s-10 6.0 swap he did same deal but a pick up, part out paid for the engine and tranny.

hes caming this one and started to measure the push rods. this is a high mile engine, 200 plus, none are the same length any more, and the tips are egged.

this guy also builds a mean tranny. the one in my regal i bought from him. shipped all the way cross country. az to NJ. hes done the 80 in the s-10 and pretty sure hes in the middle of the 60 from the hoe right now.

s-10 thread, burn out vid in first post lol http://www.grandprixforums.com/othe...4-v8-s10-project-vehicles-are-never-done.html

s-10 is now his daily driver. got to love that.

The risk here is that coolant + oil ruins the lubricity. It takes a strikingly small amount to cause a measurable uptick in wear. Drive around like that for a while and your engine will be shot in short time. Without doing some digging, it's really a shot in the dark of whether OP would be replacing heads on a worn out engine or not. From what it sounds like, he doesn't want to fuss with it and wants a clean slate with everything known to be in serviceable condition

I couldn’t have put it any better myself. I just don’t want to do the work and spend the money on this one then have something else go out down lower more than likely.
