Ive done a million of these, its not bad. Just takes some time and patience. Dealer pays I think 7.5 hours repair time on them, Ive gotten it down to about 40 minutes start - finish, but I used to do them damn near weekly.

Man I really need to get in touch with you :boti:

2009 Yukon XL. Always garaged. Less than 30K. I generally take it out two or three times a year for trips. This year I went on a road trip and And on the sixth day, I noticed a crack by the passenger air bag. I have never used any chemicals, it is in the garage quite a bit. It just looks ugly.

Real quick question. I am planning to take the dash apart next weekend. Is it ok for me to unplug the passenger airbag two days before I do the work on the dash and still drive it for those 2 days that it is unplug.

I called GM and asked a bunch of questions about this airbag recall. They do have some numbers to allow them to make the claim that it is safe to drive. It is illegal for a shop to disconnect the air bag. CFR 49 part 595. There are exceptions but they are rare and require documentation.

Technically speaking I can't see that it would hurt anything, you might get an error code and obviously the passenger will not benefit from the air bag in a crash.

I bought my 2007 LTZ Silverado with 80k on it, dash was already cracked by the passenger air bag. Previous/ original owner said it happened around 50k. The truck has always been garaged, even since I purchased it. My full windshield is also tinted (35% tint with 1.5% sunstrip) so the interior gets good UV protection and stays cool if it's out and about. Sitting in the garage overnight it cracked on the drivers side this past weekend. Which really pissed me off as it is about 8 inches and I see it every time I drive now. Filed a complaint and I'm going to talk to the dealership tomorrow hoping they'll offer me a reasonable repair cost. Maybe see about reinforcing it with some epoxy or fiberglass resin. Worst come I'll just do it myself. I will say though, mechanically the truck has been great!
