Diff gear questions

for the 3.42 you will want a GU6 axle, you will find them listed mostly for the yukons or escalade but it's the same fitment, if you poke around ebay you can get them for around $1300 +/- with free shipping, a local higher end dismantler may have them as well.
other than that you will need to check local prices for the swap or if you have the tools you can DIY
again I could be wrong on the cost I was quoted a large amount to change over the pinions on my Silverado and after a little digging figured out it would be cheaper to just swap axles, mine has the 3.08 and I want 3.42 probably get it done this summer hopefully the 3.08 is kind of a dog to me after a lift and slightly bigger tires it doesn't want to stay in high gear on the freeway much my average speed is 85 and keeping it there it's downshifting often.

No I have the 5.3 with the 6 speed and it’s RWD. The car is great off the line I’m just looking for any other mods I can do to make it better. What do you guys think about 3.73 gears? It’s my daily so I don’t want anything too crazy.
That's what I'm going to do, put in 3.73s from 3.42s. You might want to get an axle out of a 6.2 as they are bigger and stronger. You have a Salisbury 12-bolt 9.5" and the 6.2s get the Salisbury 12-bolt 9.76" axle. You could also see if a Tru-Trac center chunk is made for yours which will also handle the additional power.

With a 3.42 gear and the same 6-speed, my rpms at 70 mph are 1751 mathematically. Going to 3.73s will bring them up to 1909 at 70 mph. 4.10s for 2099 rpms on stock size tires for all. Too much gear and you'll never hook up, you'll just smoke the tires every time you get on it.

Sounds good thanks for the help. Is there a link you could send me of 3.73 gears that fit the Tahoe ?

My first choice for a ring and pinion is from the folks who made our axles, AAM, but they currently only offer 3.42 and 4.10 gears. Yukon Gear and axle offers a 3.73 ring and pinion and many folks think very highly of them. This includes Precision Transmission on youtube who does a number of re-gears and doesn't want come backs.
