Not sure how far upstate you are but if there are any farms near buy I would ask around who does their steel work. Most farmers repair their own stuff and know some talented welders.

Would it not be just as easy to use 1/4 plate steel?

Yes but I bought the 98 as a parts truck. I'm ripping the drive train and interior out for my 92 silverado and then parting it out so I might as well use that piece of frame.

The welding doesn't really scare me. I just don't know if I should keep it after I fix it.

She is a great looking truck I would keep her

Try the wipe new as seen on tv stuff on the plastic. I did my denali like 6 months ago and it's still holding up. 10x easier and longer lasting than back to black.

20 bucks small bottle will whole truck 2 to 3 times.
