Electrical Gremlin 2009 Yukon

Hi, first time posting. My wife's 2009 Yukon SLT has got some kind of strange electrical gremlin. Car has no power and won't start sometimes. No interior lights, door locks won't work, etc. This happened twice now, the first time, I jumped it and it started right away. Second time it happened, I came from work to jump it again about an hour later and it miraculously started without a jump.

I've tested battery, 12 volts off and 14 volts when running. Battery is about 6 months old. Alternator doesn't seem to make any strange noises or smells. I traced the ground from the battery to the front bumper and it feels solidly attatched. I could not easily reach the bolt it attatches to to refresh it.

I don't know a whole lot about electrical systems, so if anyone can point me in the right direction before I have to take it in to the stealership I would appreciate it. Thanks and great forum.

I'm having some issues myself (2008 Yukon) and there is a known issue with corroding battery cables especially the negative cable (corroded internally - cant be seen). I replaced all my cables that knocked out 90% of my electrical issues.

Battery with clean terminals is a must.

Fixing the negative battery cable got rid of all of my same issues. Dealer did it like they do it all the time or something.

well, i figured it out guys. thought it was the alternator at first because i smelled a weird smell while driving. so i got a new one in. same thing happened. no start or power even with battery testing at 12.5 volts. couldn't even jump it.

turned out it was the 175 amp fuse on the firewall directly behind the battery. it had gone bad. five dollar part, changed it out and boom started right away. i will update if the problem continues but i've driven it and started it a dozen times now and so far so good.
