I discovered a knocking sound coming from my engine when driving earlier today. My initial inspection has it coming from the driver side on the engine. Its a knocking sound that starts and stays when the engine is on. Knocking frequency increases with rpm. Only thing I can think of is that I'm overdue for an oil change by a month or something more serious is up with the engine. Anyone have any clues as to what could be causing the knock?

I got an 07 Tahoe 5.3L with 115k miles on it.

Are you 100% sure it's a "knock" and not a "tick"?

Have you checked your oil level and do you really not know when was the last time you changed it (mileage-wise?)

The engine making noises should not be the alarm for when an oil change is due.

That truck has afm it's not good to go even three weeks without checking the oil levels. Afm eats the oil up

At risk of sounding like an ass, you don't sound very mechanically inclined. I don't want to run you in circles having you do tasks you may not be comfortable with, or understand the nuance of what to do. Wouldn't be a productive use of time

My 2 cents, take it to a mechanic asap. If it's knocking, preferably a tow.
