With my motor with the bolt ons....I hammer the hell out of this truck. Not a problem yet (knock on wood). But really, I love my truck and I have a dent in the floor under the skinny pedal from standing on it. A little better cam would be the way to go, but that is your call. As I mentioned the fuel system on mine is close to maxed. Too many more add ons and plan to upgrade the fuel delivery system too.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12530282/ 2 bolt mains
or

and add the the Ramjet/HT383 cam

Should be in it for less than $2500 with new GM parts depending on shipping. A local dealer may be able to get you a better price on the long block though. If you wanted to go bigger on the cam you could add the stuff below and not have to have any machine work done

PAC springs

Yeah...precision engines in Houston has got them for $1195 with $500 core

5.7 350 Pickup Roller 1996-2001 R 1195 500

While a HT383 will indeed have greater performance, It's not going to last as long as 4 rebuilt engines that you could get for the same price.

Edit: forgot to mention they have these also...

Chevy 383 Stroker Crate Engine with 330 horsepower and 420 ft-lbs of torque. This engine is great for towing & heavy vehicles. $2,599.95

Chevy 383 Stroker Vortec ZZ4 Crate Engine with 395 hb and 410 ft-lbs of torque $3,499.95

That's the lowest price for a long block I have seen.

So about 2 months ago i blew out the engine on my 99 hoe. Went to the junk yard and bought an old used engine. Come to find out, this engine was ****** up and water started to leak into the head gaskets. Lost about 2 grand. Now regret not getting a new engine like i originally have planned. Sometimes saving money ends up being worst than u think.
So the question is, should i rebuild the engine that i have now by putting flat pistons and all the good stuff to get more HP and Torque out of the engine for 2500 bucks or should i just get the HE383E engine for 4500 bucks? Now if i get the HE383E engine, do anyone know a good place in Houston that would correctly install the engine with out any problems and what other mods would i have to do or get for that engine so it can work just find?
Also with which ever option i end up with, i will get it Dyno tune!!!

Best Automotive in Kingwood. My father won't do something if it isn't done right. In fact, he would not have installed that engine for you unless he was 100% sure it was going to serve you well. They aren't the cheapest, but they stand behind their work and go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of.

I suggest you to but the engine and get it installed by the dealer itself for reliability.

So if you were going to make a shopping list to build up an old 5.7 during a rebuild what would you get? I mean as far as the upgrades? I gotta do that real soon :D
