A muffler doesn't affect emissions, just sound. as for why 10+. They are VERY free flowing and last for a very long time and can be had for free if you know a exhaust shop. we do..

If your chasing every last HP/TQ then a OEM **** might not be for you. we are not.
Thats what a bigger N02 jet, +3psi or cpl more * of timing is for.

Your pipes are already mandrel bent. aftermarket pipe is the same size as OEM.
do resonator delete and swap the muffler.

Why buy pipe you dont need.

Headers with the correct Y pipe (longtubes) will bolt or weld up to your OEM catback.

The big ticket around here lately is to use a 2010 or newer OEM muffler, no cats, pacesetter longtubes with their best Y pipe (they have 2) with 07 up pipes.
Has great sound, no drone, no rasp and can be obtained for penny's vs aftermarket catbacks.

No cats will effect emissions, for those of us who have to have them :)

Huh, never thought there would that big of a difference in muffler size or flow. Do you have a comparison shot of an older 07 to 09 muffler compared to a 2010 muffler? Its interesting to say the least, seeing how many people buy aftermarket. I know of a couple of shops that have a pile of stock exhaust systems lying around.

When part of your registration involves emissions testing (sniffer and visual), no cats = fail.

cats only affect emissions on a poorly tuned engine.

Emissions looks at the changes in voltage by the o2 sensors

Before and after

muffs look same externally but they are diff internally. either way, we choose to use 10+ year for our muffler swaps in the setup described above.
they damn near new and just plain work well.

no sniffer tests for 99 and up vehicles.
only readiness tests.

If your smart and you go to the right shop, the cretins working there wont even look under vehicle. they to lazy or high.

I think here, 96 and older are exempt from emissions. They only get a safety.

Unfortunately, as silly as it sounds, they're cracking down on that stuff here. Too many shops have been fined or there licenses have been revoked because of falsifying emissions. A lot of shops don't do emissions any more for that matter. I've had three vehicles up on a lift with several guys under it, it sucks. I think my last visit was the first time they didn't put it up on a lift, it was my wife's car.

You guys have been more than helpful... Question about this though, where can I find the pacesetters. It is an aftermarket part, or would a muffler shop have them? And I've been going back and forth with getting headers. I definitely want a good sound, but I see so many header packages out here, some very reasonable priced, so cheap, some extraordinarily expensive.

The photo of the dual exhaust system with the cutouts is a work of art, I would like that system under my truck..
With the cutouts you can raise the dead and then cruise off like nothing happened..

I have a Spintech system on my 96 Impala SS with the Sportsman XL mufflers.
