Expected transmission life span

My folks have driven nothing but 4x4 GM pickup & suv since I was in grade school... A couple of each in green and a couple more in white. My mothers sister & her son both have 4x4 GM in the 2007 or '08 NNBS, 1)suv used to pull a loaded trailer every weekend and the kids pickup has a million miles driving between home & where he goes to college. All high mileage vehicles, some purchased new & some purch used with never a transmission problem to-date that I was made aware of. And I would know. I think that you have to be really ******* a 4L60 to have a failure. if you are easy on it and change the fluid every once in a while there is no reason for failure, espc if you are not towing/hauling with it.

I got my 2011 SSV with around 119k. Those were all hard cop miles. The vehicle is set up from factory with an extra engine oil and trans cooler. I went to the dealer right after I got it and asked them to do a fluid\filter service. They said come back at 150k, it will be fine. Sure enough, I got the trans serviced at 156k. the fluid looked a little dark but no residue, shavings or bits of rubber.
A thousand miles later I break the rear end. The transfer case had a lot of play in it so I had that done as well.
The transmission always seemed to have a mind of its own. The fluid change smoothed it out a bit but I still feel that it will have to go eventually.

My 2000 4.8/4L60E Silverado went 180000 before it died. Had the hard 1,2 shift before it quit.

Does anyone have a ball park idea on the expected life span of the 4L65 tranny? I'm at 108k and a buddy of mine that rebuilds transmissions says it's usually about 100-110k. I don't know if that's the life span of the ones he sees or if that's about all they last.

Hard to say. Mine went at 136 but my friend has a 2001 sierra with the same tranny (i would think its the same) and is over 200k with the original

Drop it off Friday and come and pick it up Sunday night and I guarantee I can have you picking it up with a tow truck on the side of a road with the transmission nuked. They arent hard to destroy if you drive a 5000lb truck/suv like its a Vette.

My mother in laws tahoe went 230k with the original tranny before she suddenly got stranded on the side of the road with a back glass covered in atf. She towed trailers left and right with that thing.

Mine went about 175K, but I pull my boat and camper all the time and my tow/haul button hasn't worked in at least 3 years. I fixed it after putting the new transmission in...
