Hahahaha, Found it! Sorry, was outta town. Yeah, I know. A mechanic buddy calls it that cuz he says so many Yukons, Denalis, Tahoes and Suburbans get a clunk sound when shifting from P to D or R, accel, decel etc. I need to get it looked at. Buuuuut, while we on the subject, do u know what I'm talking about? I have looked into it a lil online. Comes from the rear for sure and I have gotten under and there seems to be some play in the driveshaft. Not a ton but enough that I can twist it by hand. Seen some stuff on it needing only grease in the yoke to a replacement of the slip yoke to updated shift point codes requiring a flash of the ecu. Thanks for the welcome and look forward to chatting!

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

The only GM clunk I have heard about that to some people seems common, is the clunk noise when stopped and shifting from drive to reverse or reverse to drive. Sometimes it is too much gear lash at the rear diff or a u-joint problem or the driveline needing the splines cleaned and lubed. Is that the clunk you are talking about?
Hi! Yes thats the one! It occurs when shifting from P to R or D or at a stoplight from stopped to moving while in D. Do u have experience w this? No noise while driving btw. I heard horror stories of people spending alot of money on exploratory services only to find out it was a 150$ job. I don't wanna be that person lol. Any advice? dealership? Private tech? I dunno if I could do it myself to be completely honest. Certain things like driveline, electric and brakes I prefer to leave to the pros or people that actually KNOW what they are doing. Self preservation and such lol. Thanks and hope to hear back. Sincerely, Mike

If you are even the least bit uncomfortable diagnosing this, yes, leave it to a qualified tech. Should be able to use a drive on rack and while running in the air, a tech can have a helper in there shifting from D to R and back again and listen for where the noise is coming from. You should know, there will be some noise that will be normal. Sometimes it is the driveshaft itself that will echo that noise thru the shaft. The tech can make recommendations. I have seen where a tech will just grab the shaft body with two hands while it is being shifted and can deaden the noise with just his hands.
