It is the OEM HD hood heat pad that came with the hood. They do not make it anymore and correct the regular hood and HD heat pads are slightly different.

My original hood is buried in the back of a shed, otherwise I would have a look to compare.
Does it really help to protect the paint?

What would happen if you ran an HD hood without the heat pad?

Follow a few posts in my build thread starting here on page 35 looking forward. I actually asked this very question and got some replies, including @BADRIDES enquiring back then too. I just went with the advice given, cleaned it up, painted it and put it back in just in case. Now it looked 100% better without the pad of course.

Noticed my 3rd brake light had a light out the other night. Hit up Amazon Prime and a new one was on my door step on Sunday for $40.

This Dorman replacement unit comes with an extra pigtail that was not needed as the OEM wire and plug was in perfect condition. Fitment into the rubber boot, the 2 screw holes, the plug and above the rear window applique' is perfect. The brightness of the LEDs is much brighter than the OEM unit. The pictures speak for themselves. The unit is made in India, so hopefully it lasts as long as the OEM unit.

Dorman and OEM with included pigtail.

Woke up way too early before sunrise today, so I decided to get up and wash both the Suburban and Tahoe in the peace and quiet of the dark morning. Can't complain about the weather as it was 64F and clear this morning. Sorry for you guys in subzero temperatures right now. I gave the engine compartment a good rinse and will dress it up later. I also clay barred her from the roof to the rocker panels as she will be getting polished out later this afternoon and evening in preparation for the HD hood getting put back on.

Here are some pics from the shop. Very excited to get her back on the road.
