Hello everyone. I have a 2001 GMC Yukon XL that is blowing warm air through the front vents. The rear vents are blowing normally and I know that the 2 systems are separate in my truck. I Am trying to figure out if it is a blend door actuator or if it is the evaporator. When I turn the knob from hot to cold, I can hear it switch over and it does change temperature, but it doesn't get cold. Thanks!

If you think about the cheap parts they use in these actuators, it is amazing they last as long as they do.

Before I go out and buy a new blend door actuator, how can i be sure that it will fix the problem? I can hear the transfer when going from hot to cold.

I put freon in the truck and worked better(still not like it should) for a couple weeks and now it is the same.

So I unscrewed the blend door actuator for the front vents and manually opened and closed the vents and the heat was hotter than normal, yet the cooling was still room temperature(maybe slightly cooler). I left the actuator unhooked and turned the ac knob on the dash and the dial only turned slightly. So that leads me to believe that the actuator is bad(I'm assuming it should turn around 180 degrees).. BUT my ac was still not colder. I also took out the cabin air filters(which were filthy) and it still didn't help me.

Is it blowing warm through all the vents or just the drivers side or passenger side? There are 3 actuators, one is easy two are buried inside the dash. Assume you meant blowing hot when its on a/c and should be blowing cold? I have been there so if you can explain in more detail perhaps I can provide some help.

Yes, the truck blows warm air out of all 4 front vents when the A/C is turned all the way cold. The rear vents are blowing what seems to be subpar(70 maybe?) I recharged my system and since the rear vents are blowing colder, it leads me to believe that the system is charged. The Ac compressor is engaging properly. The blend door seems to be functioning properly as well. I removed the easier of the 3 blend doors and manually opened the vent above the actuator and it didn't get any cooler. @oldchev

You need to get a gauge on the system and measure the pressures. You either have a leak, blockage or are overcharged (or vague chance of worn out compressor).

Suggestion, look @ both AC connection on top of compressor for any residue ? take the black screw on covers off and spray a small amount of soap/water solution directly on the valve stem (providing there's enough charge to keep compressor running) and look for any bubbles from either of them.
I did a post earlier about a repair shop estimate of $1200 to fix my Tahoe, end of story, all it needed was two (2) Schraeder valves. JMHO and good luck.
