I been having hard hot start issue for several months now. If it sits for an extended period of time after driving, it takes a bit/or several tries for it to turn over. It does have a strong rich odor coming from exhaust.

Its a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 4WD, with approx. 110,***. So far the fuel pump, FPR, Thermostat, Spark plugs and wires, fuel injectors. fuel filter has been replaced within the past 2-3 months and still runs the same. As much as I love this Tahoe, its getting the best of me.

I bought it with about 104,*** miles than around 108,*** it just randomly does this. I don't know what it is, but if anyone has insights or similar issues please help? If your local to the "Kansas City" area, that would be even better if your a guru with these vehicles.

Thank you.

What should the fuel pressure read with the engine running??

50psi - Engine off
48-49psi - Running

Seems on the low side?? Can it be a faulty fuel pump was installed? Or how can I tell if its not any other fuel components.

What did the truck do prior to the new fuel pump? Did it start or run any different than now? Also, did you go with an OEM or aftermarket pump?

Wish I could help you with the fuel pressure but I'm sure someone will chime in!

It was having extending cranking issues when I let it sit for a while after driving it. After the new pump was installed, it runs the same - hard starting. I been driving it like that for the past 5+ months, it just randomly happen one day and never went away. I went with the ACDelco fuel pump, I believe it has a 1 year warranty.

Tried a MAF & TB cleaning? Also might wanna try some seafoam and see if it cleans anything out.

I haven't seafoamed it in a while, but I did clean the maf and tb. Unfortunately it runs the same, I was hoping I was the lucky ones that replacing the fuel pump or the FPR fixed the issue...but I wasn't.

My '01 will do the same, probably a bit less severely however. If I let it sit for a week or so, it will take one or two extra turn overs for it to start. Fires right up if I run it daily, though. Similar situation, maybe? I've never paid it any mind. 242k on the clock.

Yea a lot less severe, mine does it everyday. I just don't want be stranded somewhere anytime soon.

I might have a leaking intake manifold gasket, sprayed some cleaner around the front passenger side and engine slightly hesitated. Can that play in with the hard start issue I been having?

I went to check my wires under the fuse block today, and when I pulled up the plastic box a little I seen a block of dirt. Didn't know what it was. Pulled it up a little more, and there is a small wasp nest it there. Smacked the block back shut and now I don't even want to mess around my engine compartment. This sucks! Possibly tie's in with my starting issue..
