If GM offered a full electric version of todays Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade, would you buy it instead of the gas/diesel version? As they electrify these vehicles they get uglier and uglier, look at the new electric Silverado, it looks like the old Avalanche

Food for thought.......

Lets say you need to go 800 miles in a day, family emergency... 35 degree weather....

400 mile range in our big hulks give or take... 300 mile range in electric probably less with cold weather... Gas stop and bathroom is 15 minutes tops unless its a Buccees here in Texas. So recharge electric at supercharger about 1hr if I am right? 2 extra hours for charging can mean life or death, or major issues or not seeing a loved one before passing etc.

Electric is only good for in town, maybe 200 mile trips for weekend away bs... That's it... and you have to be tethered to electricity... If yall heard our power grid doesn't have the ability to take all this on. Hell California asked residents not to charge cars due to grid issues multiple times...

The infrastructure isn't there for EV and I honestly haven't seen any vast improvement's on fixing in our state in regards to high demand and buffer KWH... And you think power generation is greener than ICE? Lets look at the wind turbine effects on the environment? Killing birds, multiple unit failures causing meltdowns, blades that cannot be recycled and are buried in landfills? Solar isn't the fix either... We have the technology to move forward, the knowledge to do better, nuclear power can be done clean and with less impact, but is plagued with its own issues also.. Economics drive things and supply and demand rule...

Oil companies have killed off the EV surges through time, BUT the feasibility and the charging is the issue that it has always been plagued with even back to the 1910 era when the first EV were on the market... This is a 100 year old battle, yes technology has increased but there are still places in this world that EV is about the dumbest choice to take there and why the ICE has taken such strong hold and moves the world.

Battery fires that re ignite after being put out is a huge safety concern also...

The biggest pollution issues are Cargo ships and planes... Yet folks thing going "green" helps the environment. And buying imports really has no effect on anything...

So in closing I will say this. We have the oil supplies here in the US to not be swayed by the global market, yet we do allow the sway all the time. Greed, conflicts, and bad choices are why we are where we are today. Yes it sucks folks, but after watching the US major players in political games buy EV companies stocks a year ago. I knew this was coming, and how better to try to force people into an agenda than to raise the price of a commodity to force them to buy something they hold stock in.

Does anyone know also how much more it costs towards your electricity bill to charge your car at your home?

My electricity bill has been going up it seems along with everyone else’s despite their fact I ain’t using more electricity lol. Can’t imagine what a Tesla charging station would add to it a month, but I can’t imagine it’s minimal

Here in Paradise, Ca. they are dealing with rolling blackouts at times. How you gonna charge the EV rigs when there is no electricity? The gov wants you to buy them and they don't have enough stations to charge them all and the range sucks and as has been said, they are ugly.

Say what? Crude oil (or petroleum) is used for less than 1% of all electricity production. Natural gas is about 40% and coal, nuclear, and renewables about 20% each.
Let me be more clear, natural gas comes from oil wells and from coal beds. We still need to drill to extract natural gas & crude oil.

EV Batteries, do not make electricity – they store electricity produced elsewhere, primarily by coal, uranium, natural gas-powered plants, or diesel-fueled generators. So, to say an EV is a zero-emission vehicle is not at all valid.

Also, since forty percent of the electricity generated in the U.S. is from coal-fired plants, it follows that forty percent of the EVs on the road are coal-powered, do you see?"

with the new EVs, the higher V batteries can charge from ~10-80% in 15-20 min using a fast charger. Obviously it will depend on where you are, but in the PNW there are a decent number of them. For a multi-day road trip, EVs are not really gonna cut it. But for a trip to a vacation home, 400mi+ is probably doable, depending on where you live.

The one thing that it seems few people get (as mentioned above), is that the value of the EV really depends on where you live. In the PNW, where most of the energy is hydroelectric, they are "greener". Others, maybe not so much. If it is coal, worse, natural gas, maybe marginally better, nuclear, depends on your philosophy, but probably better. And while charging at home does cost (20-30/mo maybe), where i am there are a decent number of "free" chargers at parking lots, you might not need to charge nearly as much at home. With gas prices $5+here, my next vehicle (not to replace the Sub), for city and shorter road trips, will almost certainly be an EV

I have a friend with a new Chevy Bolt. He has actually measured what it takes to charge it from near zero to capacity at home overnight.
He has determined that a full “tank” costs him 4.60 in electricity…and he gets 200+ miles out of that….
while that could be somewhat different for a Tesla or a F 150 lightning, it gives you a rough rule of thumb that it is still quite respectable.
How it’s generated I’ll leave for others to work out, but the cost per fill DOES make sense…..

So it’d be a decent commuter car but road trip car is another story. How long does it take the car to fully charge from 0?
