No, I knew what the ramifications were when I bought my truck. Didn't buy it for mpg. Bought it for the size of my family and the long haul from 0- 100k+ miles.
Yes I agree with KingMarcellous, I bought my Yukon as dealer stock, lucky find, and it had the 5.3L. Still would have taken it if it had a 6.2L, fuel economy wasn't a deal breaker since the Yukon would not be a daily driver. On the window sticker I think it's only 1 mpg difference between the 2 engines. Found a few with diesels that were spoken for and probably would have settled for one of those even though diesel cost more per gallon, regardless I like the Yukon.

I paid $4.98 for my 93 octane yesterday, and I know that this price is relatively low compared to other parts of this country. I'm fortunate in that if gas prices get really out of control, I'll drive my Honda Fit more than my truck. But, I'm never going to get rid of my truck, just because of high gas prices. It is just too much fun to drive the truck.
I hear ya, paid $4.09 for 93 yesterday at Sams. I don't know if I might detune it back to 83. But I'm with you, you can't beat driving a truck.

We haven't driven our Tahoe.much lately, I'm usually in my Express work van, and my gf doesn't work. As it is, it doesn't get great mpg--more smiles per gallon since it's cammed and tuned. Every time I drive it, I can't help myself lol. But I drove it yesterday and I drove it like an old lady! I use premium, and it's over $4 a gallon now. I really hope this crap ends soon.
I'm with you on hoping this crap ends soon. The next time you feel like driving like an old lady, I'll let you borrow this: HA!Jersey Girls dont pump gas.jpg

It’s probably impossible to realize it if you’re a normal driver who doesn’t get gas from the same place all the time.

Honestly I’ve never heard anyone, whether it be a friend/family/coworker/stranger having a conversation…ever talk about their average MPG or fuel efficiency for their car...until I came here.

And the crazy part is, you guys are buying a full size SUV with a 5.3L V8 engine (or even bigger) and MPG and fuel efficiency is a huge topic on here lol. And now gas prices are a concern for some, despite these cars are starting cheapest stuff $60k and as high as $85k (without any markup) . Makes no sense to me.

You shouldn’t expect good fuel efficiency and MPG for these vehicles and you shouldn’t be concerned about keeping this type of car with high gas prices if you can afford this type of car in the first place.
Well, I actually think a 3+ ton vehicle with a 420 HP engine that for the first 2200 miles I have owned it is averaging ~17 MPG in my mixed 66/33 highway/city driving is actually “good fuel economy.” I’m actually impressed given my previous versions of this vehicle used to average 13.5-14 MPH for the same diving with 325 HP engine.

Some may be looking for more, but I’m darn happy, my expectations have been exceeded!!

Is that with factory tune? darn good. I purchased a Diablo Sport and tuned my 2013 5.3 , I was getting average Hwy 16-17 MPH after the tune (AFM off, Rev limiter off, solid shifts, tune for 93 ) we took a 4.300 mile road trip to NJ for Christmas and the average MPH was 20.8 ( I must admit alot was cruse control set to 76 , the MPH seemed to be the best, but hay I must say I was surprised and impressed because that included a lot of in town East Brunswick, NJ and two day stops in Charleston, NC going up and Ashville coming back) If you have not thought about tuning your ride, it might make some surprising difference.

Yes, factory tune. Only owned it for 2200 miles, not going to void the warranty.

I guess my message was misconstrued - it was more towards people who are disappointed with what their avg. MPG has been thus far and are unhappy with their purchase.

From what I've read a lot more people have been saying they're closer to 13-14 MPG with a similar highway to city split. People like you who are averaging 17 seem to be in fewer in numbers. And then some people mention they're getting close to 20mpg. Obviously the better you do, it should be a pleasant surprise and it should make you happier about your purchase. But I am talking about people who are regretting purchasing this type of vehicle because their fuel efficiency sucks compared to someone like you.

There are too many things to take into consideration that impact everyone differently. For example, I live in New York Tri State area and my highway experience ain't exactly friendly. Plus, I am not driving much on the highway to begin with, and when I do, my smooth sailing at a nice 65-75 mph is usually 20 minutes max if i'm lucky. Maybe closer to 45minutes if I go all the way out east.

But if I didn't know any better - based on people saying they're getting 20 to even 25mpg all on the highway....I would be quite disappointed if that was my expectation. Because where I live, its not. I'd be lucky to get what you're averaging if I solely drove on the highway.

Well, driving environment and habits definitely affect it, for sure.
I live in a ~120k person midwest town, and it is largest city for 100 Mile radius.
Traffic in town is light, normal Midwest stuff...
Highway drives are on fairly sparse highways where I can set the cruise and not touch a pedal for probalby the duration of the trip, save the occasional car to pass on a 2 lane, or a to to slow down for.
Interstate Highway travel is usually set the cruise around 74-76, and don't touch a pedal until the exit at my destination.

For example, I drove 245 miles from my home to Milwaukee 2 weeks ago, the cruise was on ACC and set at 76. We purred along that trip and I literally never turned off the cruise...I averaged 17.6 for that 245 miles. (Reset Trip 1 when I filled up at home, read it in the hotel parking lot in Milwaukee).

Anyway, yes, I agree w/ you...driving environment and style (like if you really love feeling the 6.2 every time you accelerate, and mash it to the floor every time...don't expect my numbers, but do expect a big smile on your face) are the biggest factor in economy.

Anyone who bought one of these rigs should expect 12-15 in all city driving and 16-20 on the road...
Wind is also a factor...

Up side, you are driving down the road in your lazy boy recliner, little to no road noise, and with up to 7 of your friends, vs. taking 2 cars! And you can bring your toys along behind you if you want!

I think your post sums it up perfectly for me. Cruise Control. That is something that doesn’t exist for me where I primarily drive, unless I want to rear end someone everyday lol
