could the fuel pump going bad cause the raw gas smell?

smell found ! small hole rusted out on the fuel tank.

I put a Spectra premium tank in mine. Made in Canada and it was a good quality unit. Amazon's free shipping came in handy...the UPS guy commented that the 44 gal tank was a PITA to haul around .
