October of last year, I payed $22K out the door for a 06 Yukon XL. 60K miles, loaded, leather, power pedals, sunroof, 4wd, nav, capt chairs in the 2nd row, DVD, GM 17" wheels and new tires. It was the color I wanted, and I knew the truck was a one-owner lease turn in and had been serviced by the dealer it's whole life.

The dealership gave it a GM certified warranty with that price. Did I pay too much for it, probably....but for me, it was piece of mind that if I did have problems with it, I had recourse. I had looked at 10 others that were less miles and less money that were not near as nice as this one.

If it's what you want, and you can afford it....do it. Sure, you can find cheaper ones, but usually, you get what you pay for.

Just my two cents.

I was in the car business for a while and I bought and sold used vehicles and did pretty good at it. I am not saying that I know everything about the used car business, but I have seen my share of it.

The market value of a used vehicle not only goes by what year it is and how many miles is on it, but also which area of the country you happen to be in when you are looking for a new vehicle. Even minute changes in the area might be a big factor in how a vehicle is used and how much the dealer pays for the vehicle and how much you pay for the vehicle.

Because of where I live, I can tell you of times where I knew of people who drove down from Bufffalo NY to Punxsutawney PA to buy a new Ford Truck.
They worked for Ford and they couldn't even get a new vehicle off the lot for the sticker price. When the demand is high and the inventory is low, you can charge what ever you want for it and people will pay it to get it.

Back in 01', when my brother bought a new Z/71 Avalanche, he paid $37,000 for it out the door. 3 weeks later GM had a rebate and they knocked $5000 off the price of a new vehicle and he lost $5000 just like that.
The value of that vehicle never did recover - because when the vehicle was appraised even for the blue book, they looked at the sale price when the rebates were in effect and not what he paid for it.

Right now it is a buyers market. GM has quite a few 09's still on the lot and they are willing to deal to get rid of them. You could actually buy a new vehicle for less money then what that used truck is worth in the long run as long as you are willing to take what is in inventory and do not care what color it is or what options it has.

Everyone here is only looking at the year and the mileage. I can tell you that the options is what makes or breaks the price of the vehicle. A new Avalanche Z /71 or a 2LT is probably $12,000 more then a base LS or 1LT Avalanche. $12,000 is a lot of money.

When someone hesitates, the best thing I can say is that if you know of a good mechanic that you can trust - that would be willing to stand behind his prognosis, then you would be ok to buy that vehicle. But since there is no guarentee, I would make sure that before you bought it that it was exactly what you were looking for and that if it was going to cost you - all the money you have in the world, that you make sure that nothing is going to go wrong that is going to send you into bankrupcy court.

If it was a GM dealer, maybe they coudl throw in some type of protection plan where you only pay a portion of the cost of repairs and not the whole amount or you could buy one - and have them deduct part of the price off the sale price of the new / used vehicle.

If I was buying it, I would look for one that no one has done anything to it.
If they put silly wheels and tires on it or tried to beef up the stereo or messed with the suspension - I would run, I wouldn't even walk away from it.

Anyone that buys a truck and expects it to run and look like a car is going to be sadly mistaken when they bring it home and find out that it might get 16 mpg. A truck is a big / expensive toy. Unless you have a use for a truck, it isn't a wise option to get one - just to look cool.

You should splurge and buy an NNBS for a little bit more.

^^^ THIS ^^^
20,000 is WAY to much....just saying. Hell, I have had mine for 2 1/2 years....granted it's only a 2000, but it only had 63,000 on it, was a one owner, and I got it for 8,000! I've seen some nice, clean, newer used Tahoes, and the have been way less than 20, more like 15,000+ but if it's what you want get it! The Forest Gump scenario comes into play with vehicles.... new/used/old "Ya Neva Know Whutcha Gunna Get"

Didn't get it...mechanic agreed with you all

Okay, when I first saw it my eyes were like YA!! I could get used to driving that. The dealer let me test drive it to the Mechanic that did the inspection...didn't ride with me hmmm in California you had to leave your license and someone went with you. Anyway the mechanic's a friend of my family and he found several rusted areas and a re-painted area due to damage of some sort. Even my eye could see how bad the rust was under the vehicle...there were cigarette burns in the carpet, not many but for that price?? The dealer was like "really?" when we pointed out the problems. Kept trying to tell us what a great deal it was. We want a total of no higher than 23000 out the door with a warranty, that will mean the Tahoe has to be around 18,000. Still high based on what you all are saying. The mechanic thought it was high as well. But in looking on the net, out here in this part of PA the Tahoes are in demand and the value stays up there. Also, the warranty was $2,222 for I think 48 months and up to 50000. I put 20000 on my vehicle every year, so that warranty will only last 2 1/2 yrs...

Yeah im with bad to thebone, what part of the country you are in does make a difference. Like here in tx, trucks hold thier value. But i would just go with what you want. Just if you dont plan on keeping it long, then i wouldnt buy it, that way you can still get some money out of it when you sell it and not be in the hole.

but... in the end up to you.. my .02

take the money you would spend on a warranty and put it in the bank... non dealer used car warrantees are shit. GMPP isn;t that great either as they will delay you till hell freezes over and the devil learns to ice skate if the repair costs more than the warranty.

I know.
I got $5400 worth of new engine out of an $1800 GMPP 10 years ago, but it took 4months. During this time I literally wound up homeless because I was paying a note AND having to rent a car AND not able to work any overtime. 4 inspectors were flown in to look at it to try and void the warranty (one a month), and the dealership was getting peeved because they had the car sitting there the entire time waiting on approval.

Bearing in mind the dealer is throwing his mark up on it which is probably why it's prices that high. He probably took that in as a trade for $10-$12K and is trying to recoup his profit margin cuz he probably discounted the car he was selling when this one was traded in
Sorry but I've seen enough Hoes to know that $20K is high and 50K miles is also a little suspicious unless there is a full and clear service history.

The rust is also an issue cuz rust is rust and has to be cut out to totally eliminate.

I would def consider Jenna Bear's truck as you know that truck has been loved and cared for and tuned to perfection. Not to mention half if not all the mods have been done for you already

Your always gonna pay through the nose from a dealer but at least you have some kind of protection if things go wrong, BUT I would still buys Jenna;s instead.

I bought my 04 LT in August for $14K with 60,000 miles and it was in near perfect condition in an out

Just my 2 cents
