That's strange. The heater worked ok before?
I'm thinking you either have a plugged heater core or your temperature blend doors aren't working. I've had a stuck door before and on occasion had to cycle the temp hot to cold a dozen or so times to get it working again.
Have you disconnected the battery recently? I actually had a weird issue on my Escalade when I changed the battery this summer. Only got hot air for the first few trips in it after changing the battery. It corrected itself and hasn't had a problem since.

It could be that your Thermostat is stuck open. It is Spring regulated to keep the temps at 210. If it is stuck open it cant regulate the heat right. Have you ever replaced it before? Just my thoughts.
Never replaced before ill check it out

I don't have experience on this truck but with a stuck thermostat on other vehicles for me the temp wouldn't get above 160F, it usually sat pegged at the bottom of the gauge in winter conditions.
I have seen odd temps though when I had a car with a coolant leak before and it was low on coolant. That also could give the symptoms of cool air out of the heater as well. Not enough coolant in the system usually means the heater core doesn't have coolant passing through it.

I haven't done a thermostat on a 5.3 yet. but have done many others. they presented the same issues as you are having. not heating to the right temps. never had one act that way cause of a coolant leak though.

I agree with Wake's help he's offering up, if you coolant level is full then your thermostat is more than likely stuck open!! I had that happen to a pretty new thermostat on my denali some years ago, I had changed the coolant and replaced the thermostat when I did the water pump. 6 months later driving home at night in the winter from a boat show all of a sudden my heat turned to cold air. Looked down at the gauge and it was dropping to almost pegged out cold but then stopped right before full cold and stayed there all the way home!! NO HEAT AT ALL!! lol
Changed out the thermostat the next day and all was good again even to this day, I did boil the old one and low and behold it would get to full open and just stay there!!
With your temperature gauge where it's at and you have very little to no heat, I'd say you need a new thermostat, and while you are at it I'd flush out the whole system out real good with water!!

And changing one out on our trucks is very very easy and simple to do, great access compared to some other vehicles that I've done in the past!!

Thermostat is located in the bottom radiator hose right??
I turned my truck off just for a little while like 20 mins turn back on and already was the lowest it can be on the temp. Gauge

Upper Rad hose goes to the thermostat Housing pull the bolts, pop it loose and its under there. i recommend draining your rad fluid first. so you dont make a mess.
