Hello my 2001 Tahoe LT is burning oil. 1 quart every 1000 miles. I got the truck October 2012. I hardly drive it. It's my first truck so I wouldn't know if this is considered normal. 5.3 vortec :emotions122:

I'm no mechanic but I can tell you this is not normal. I've heard, that for the age of the truck, about 1quart per 3k or each oil change is "normal". Are you sure it's not leaking? Someone with more insight will chime in soon.

Don't think this will completely solve your problem, but check your PCV valve and see if it is the type that has the ball in it and it rattles. If so, get yourself the updated one without the ball in the PCV!

^ that and try to run a little thicker oil, say 10w30 or so depending on the miles.

This has come up MANY times and people always say "its the motor" before checking there pcv valves. Most likely thats what it is if its a 2000-2002. Best of all theres and udated part for it just purchase the pcv valve that came on the 03-06 tahoes. Its cheap and easy to fix.
