Hi
I currently own a 2004 yukon xl Denali, its been with me around 7 years but it started to have issues and im looking to buy a newer one.
I checked a 2009 yukon xl denali, but it had electrical issues and the engine/transmission felt slow/sluggish when accelerating.

I kept looking around and found a 2011 yukon xl, 5.3 lc9, 4wd, 6 speed transmission, had a test drive and everything seemed fine, the overall condition of the car was ok, the maintenance history seems ok too.

My dilemma started wheen i saw a 2012 ford expedition with asking price around 2000$ less than yukon.

So what do you propose/would choose if the both have:
The same miles- around 180,000 miles.
The same overall condition ( i didn't test drive the expedition yet but the pictures show a better interior and exterior condition).
The same maintenance history ( mainly oil changes).

I prefer the yukon because im familiar with it, i tend to try fixing stuff in my own, with ford it seems a new start for me in this regard, even though the interior quality of it its quite compelling.
I will test drive the expedition after 2 days, so in the meantime i will be waiting for your valuable input.

best regards

Welcome to the forum from Virginia. Vehicle brands can be quite suggestive. The Ford/GM debates can even get heated. Knowing your old rig gives you a good idea about how the GM product may behave. Go on line and look up recall or TSB’s on both rigs. Different year models on the same rig have their own concerns. Good luck in your search.

We went from 06 YXL Denali to 08, then an 09 Esky ESV. The milage was 14k / 96k / 140k on them. I have zero regrets and currently had the flex fuel option on the Esky save us enough here in SoCal to pay off the $14k purchase price of the truck.

If you’re shopping for another used vehicle, go all in and don’t be afraid to shop in the land of GM milk & honey (TX). That’s where I found our 09 Plat Esky cream puff at a Lexus dealership.

Grab a 07/08/09 Denali or Esky w/ the 6.2L non AFM motor & 6SP trans. The 09 have e85 capability and a 2WD option. The 07/08/09 are 300k+ mile trucks.

Good plan. I'm not a fan of how Ford lays things out in their engine bay, and some of the over complexities that ensue. The newer stuff has gotten a lot better, but the simplicity of maintenance and repairs on a GM fullsize vs a Ford is enough for me to stick with it for awhile.

Those timing chain-driven H2Opumps are the first weakness that comes to mind.
The second is less clear to me; involving the cam-timing adjustment mechanisms.
To my knowledge, either of these failures can potentially result in replacing an entire engine?
(Question mark because I've no direct personal experience, but have heard many complaints from NYC cabdrivers about the Ford 'Cyclone' V6 family.)

Fords....... I had considered a very clean F-150 Harley Davidson edition ( black / step side)....
I was detailing it for a friend who was going to sell it... I detailed the engine ( it was pretty clean)..

It was parked inside a nice detached garage, for 6 + years.... I noticed the rubber vacuum & smog parts, and some were 'hard' and some had cracks.....
I found out ...to gain access to the rear 1/2 of the engine, was to remove the engine to service.
The truck's hood is not very long, and the engine is buried under the fire wall....
NO WAY I will ever touch a Ford !!!

A Ford's 4x4 system is not the same as a GMC. I doesn't disconnect the same way. Even though i worked for a Ford dealer when I was young I've always been a GMC person.

I will add a good experience with a Ford. My motor home is an E450 and it runs like a top. It’s been from Virginia to Mexico several times with no issues. Granted they don’t offer this engine and trans setup in a truck but it’s a good one. Finding an RV with a GM power train isn’t easy so I figured there was a reason for this.
