97 Tahoe LT 5.7 94k on the motor and 7k on the trans, bought for $500 with paperwork showing rebuilt trans at 87k.

I stole this rig....
That’s great but this is the 2000-2006 model section. Also, you left out how many miles were on the truck itself.

Why so cheap?

Bought on market place w/o even seeing it. Figured I can part out. Turns out the guy just wanted it out of his garage after sitting 6yrs. No one in his family wanted to deal with it. He planned on junking then posted on FB for 500 since junk yard only offers 350.
So I zelled him the money had it towed.
Figured if it was trash I can part out then scrap. Turns out a battery and fuel pump she started right up.
From there started finding smaller issues like a broken brake line a busted torsion bar mount and new shocks and sway bat links oh and a hole in the muffler. I did most of the work myself dumped about $350 in parts now she drives like a dream.
Flushed all fluids just need to fix the AC and good to go. On the plus side it has the certified geneva package its like a mini camper lol love this thing. tv/vcr and extra Radio in the rear with the side liner lights.
