I have a 2006 GMC Yukon XL with the 5.3 V8 Vortec and the 10 bolt rear end

My battery died the other day to the point where the dash wasn't working but it would still crank the car over. It clearly wasn't getting fuel tho so I knew the battery had finally given up. It was just a cheap one lead acid one and it was 5 years old. I threw a red top optima in it and it fires after two turns over.

Unfortunately now I have a service airbag message and an airbag light on, and the only thing I have found on the internet is that low voltage cranking can sometimes trigger that. But nobody said how to fix it...

(I have already disconnected the battery over night, and I have tried clearing the codes with a blue driver scanner)

Thanks in advance for any help! It is super appreciated!

Get a code reader to know for sure... There is an airbag sensor on the front bumper that can go bad. If it is just the error triggered by low/no battery, it will go away after a bit of time. Just ran through this with my daughter's Sierra.

Try this reset. Disconnect both cables completely from the battery, and touch the ends of both cables together for a few seconds (2 seconds if you feel lucky; 10 for good measure).

Why? What does this do? I've never heard of this.

@Fless beat me to it but you may still need to do some inspection related to this: Check all grounds around the engine, firewall and at the frame. At the battery as well.

look under the both seats and under the dash for yellow plugs. yellow plugs are air bag related. some times a plug is just dirty and need to be taken off and on a couple times to clean it up.

you need a srs scanner to scan air bag codes. but the light will also go out asap, when its fixed. aka a plug taken apart and put back on can do it. the plugs under the seat might be dragging the carpet when the seats moved.

if yo uhave a droid device and a elm327 blue tooth obd2 reader, this app will read any code you may have. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...d2.chevroletsys.chevroletsysscanfree&hl=en_US
