If you do have a water pump leak and replace it, don't cheap on it. Get a good quality one from Rock Auto and do the thermostat while you are in there. Check to belts and tensioners and idlers as well and replace as needed or just replace because they are old. Keep all mating surfaces clean and dry during reassembly and make sure you double check coolant level after a few roadtests, in case of an air pocket.

Thanks for the videos. Its funny, that's not much different than changing the water pump on our old 93 suburban.

How many miles? 82k seems to be a common number for when a pump goes.
As for not getting cheap, it gets very tricky. Hit Amazon and look for Delco OEM pump, and you'll find $100 price difference between them. Some Delco OEMs are made in China, some other places. And spending the extra money doesn't guarantee you'll get the better pump either. Some places sell the China pumps for the higher prices, so it is far from thinking it is a case of "you get what you pay for".
I gave up and went Duralast from the parts store. At least you know what you are buying.
(And the long term reviews are positive)

My rule of thumb is the AC Delco pump at Rock Auto. I just recently started using Amazon Prime so thanks for the reminder. After 35 years in shops I gauge some of the quality by the names I remember. I just never go by the cheapest unless I know for sure I am getting rid of the vehicle.

Yes, but the issue I ran in to is the name didn't mean anything anymore, or the supplier.
AC Delco could be a made in China pump,
and with the games going on buying from a reputable seller isn't a guarantee the origin of the part.
(There have been cases of sellers thinking they were selling high quality products, but the supply upstream of them was the issue)

+1,000 on going Delco. My '02 Tahoe just turned 283k. All replacement parts have been Delco or Delphi where applicable. Only problem I've had is with a Delphi fuel pressure regulator that buzzed like hell.

The weather has been screwing with me. I did pull the skid plates and watch it drip. It's running off the bottom of the water pump, but I don't see the weep hole to see if that's the source. I guess it has to be. The pump housing is dry underneath near the hoses, and there's a casting mark that would draw the water if that's where the leak was.
